This is turning out to be cracking series on Discovery. Just watched tonight’s episode on Bomber Command and a trip to
Essen/Krupps Works.
NX611 was filmed doing a taxi-run with Al Murray and a veteran pilot on board.
It had been 60 years since the pilot last set foot in a Lancaster, and to see the expression on his face after the taxi-run was great.
“60 years just fell away..” He said.
Plenty of good footage from inside NX611, plus interviews from both sides made for a good half-hour of television. Recommend watching it, if you get the chance.

Paul

I like the Operation Market Garden one – I think he actually jumps from the Dak in that one…………….

In fact most of them are watchable………………………

Read an interview a few years ago and he confessed to being a history buff with as has already been mentioned a degree in the subject.
Having seen his Berlin series first time round it certainly made me see his pub landlord in a different light.
Would be nice to see him do more of this as I thought he was a good presenter and better than some

I seem to remember Al Murray having a pretty good discussion with James May on the relative merits of the Spitfire 9 versus the FW 190 on one of his Friday night “pub landlord” TV shows. They both seemed to know their stuff.

Sorry to resurrect this zombie, but this series now being shown on Quest.
I watched it last night and although I loved the shots of Just Jane, I was flabberghasted to see Pathfinder Mossies taking off and turning into 4 Meteors! They had even overdubbed the Mosquito soundtrack over, what if I am not mistaken, was the title shot from the old BBC series “War In The Air”.
Also noted that stock shot of Manchesters when talking about Lancasters.Being repeated tonght if you missed it.
Perhaps he should keep up the day job! 😉

To be fair, this would hardly be the fault of Mr Murray. More likely to be the fault of the series researchers.

Here his website, http://www.publandlordlive.com/main.html
His act is completely non PC, a sort of Alf Garnett without the racism, read the tour reviews and you will get the idea, 😀
In real life I believe he took (or studied towards) a degree in miltary history so he should know his stuff.

I keep catching bits of it, including the last 20 minutes tonight.
No idea what he’s like as a comic, but he’s doing a pretty good job of presenting.
