i have fond memories of the ’10 years of the Hawk in RAF service’ party that BAe threw for us at RAF Valley. lots of barrels of beer, a bit of bunting, and an empty aircraft hangar.
lets just say that the towing team the next morning were rather subdued!

Sounds a great party, I must admit i am fond of the Hawk its a elegant Aircraft, One of our best exports and is the last totally British built Jet.

Very nice, its not often you get to see photo’s of the Saudi team. It would be nice to see them in the UK sometime.

I chose my name Duxfordhawk for here partly due to the age of the Hawk, It first flew in 1974 and i was born the same year, I must admit it is looking a bit better for its age.
Just for general information the first Hawk entered service for the RAF in 1976, Yes its not a new design nor is the F-15,F-16,Harrier,Tornado etc but i am not sure they are historic either, But thats a debate for another thread and not for this one.

Thank you dear friends on their engagements distinctive … Already there are joint exercises between red Arrows and Saudi hawks

:diablo:

That is something I’d love to see. It would be worth the price of a ticket to any airshow just to see them.

Interesting, looks like a carbon copy of the Reds display routine?

Hardly surprising as they had an ex Red Arrows pilot as their Team Manager.

How does the old saying go? “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery“…

There must be a finite number of formations and manouvers possible with nine (or less?) aircraft, and the Reds must have used them all by now, so perhaps you’re being a bit harsh there DB…?

Though I must admit, the similarity is no doubt heightened even more by the fact that the Saudi-formations are made up by ‘planes with that very familiar silhouette.

I think i heard somewhere that some Ex Red Arrows pilots were involved in helping the team Train, Not sure if thats true so don’t quote me.

Oh I dunno – the original Hawk design is getting on for 30 years in service now. Scary to think a “new type” (this in the perception of someone who still thinks of them as the Red Arrow’s “new planes”) is almost an historic type now.
