Hi All,
A truly one of a kind actor who put 100% into any role through all genres that he acted, one of my favourite comic performances from Galaxy Quest as Alexander Dane. (Character description below) He played this to a T especially when signing at the convention….:D
Alexander Dane was a stage actor famous for his portrayal of Richard III, for which he received five curtain calls. He then took a job portraying Dr. Lazarus on the ’80s TV show “Galaxy Quest,” a space-travel story about an intrepid crew and their travels across the universe. The TV show was cancelled and the GQ actors have been reduced to living off their fame by attending sci-fi conventions, presiding at the opening of new stores, and allowing rabid fans to film interviews in their garages and basements. Dane is constantly irritated by the adulation received by his peer Jason Nesmith, who portrayed the captain of the ship on the show. Dane feels that he is the better actor, and that his talents by and large go unappreciated by audiences and fans. This is shown to be, for the most part, true, during the real-life adventures of the Galaxy Quest actors in space, where Nesmith’s character is praised by almost every alien they meet, even when the heroics have actually been performed by Dane. Dane sometimes feels that he has wasted his life on Galaxy Quest, when he could have opted to continue as a respected actor of the stage instead, yet he seems to enjoy being part of the GQ crew and even wears his prosthetic rubber headpiece when relaxing at home.
By grabthars hammer you shall be avenged! RIP Mr Rickman.
Geoff.

I get very tired of saying this, but I’ll say it once more.
Moderation is a task I was voted into by the contributors here and which I carry out to the best of my abilities.
But it does not require me to “set an example” other than abiding by the code of conduct. When I post on the board it’s me, not an unpaid functionary of Key Publishing that is writing.
Don’t like it? Tough. Popularity isn’t my aim.

I’ll worry about it in the unlikely event it comes to pass.
Your sin, however is far more troubling at the present. Your no doubt think your warrantless and clever, the Russell Brand of the Key empire. But as a modrator I’d hope you’d know better, if for no other reason to set an example.
If nothing else, I’d recall that old saying…”Karma’s a b!tch”. 😉

I am hoping that in some way we never get to the position where Trump has his finger on the button of America’s nuclear arsenal.
He’s a great comedy figure and has given us over here a lot of harmless enjoyment, but the thought of him in a position of power is deeply scary. But then maybe you don’t think so, or do you feel it could never happen?

Wishful thinking. Both Bowie and Rickman were 69.

Oh, oh course.
So you’re in your own subtle way, you’re wishing someone dead because you don’t like what they’ve said (Trump has never held office, so presumably he hasn’t actually DONE anything to offend you).
So, do you prefer to be compared with the Stalinists or ISIL?
I’ll need to know to pick out a proper birthday card for you. 🙂

If it’s another of your rants, it’s a bit too subtle for me.

And that is why we are on this side of the Atlantic and you, I think, are on the other! 😀
RIP Alan.

It has been noticed that Donald Trump is 69…..
And this has what to do with a late English actor?
If it’s another of your rants, it’s a bit too subtle for me.

Loved Rickman in Galaxy Quest…

Agreed.
He was perfectly cast as the perturbed English “serious thespian” who thought himself too good for “Hollywood”…

I Watched it the other night, it was surprisingly his first film, talk about nailing the role

I’m currently watching Die Hard. It had to be done, really. I think Rickman’s Hans Gruber is one of those few villains who you actually want to get away with it!

It seems difficult to be famous and pass 70 this year.
Loved Rickman in Galaxy Quest as well as all the more celebrated movies being listed in the media tonight

Saw this in the Grauniad earlier and was thinking how his fine and successful film career will probably eclipse his even finer stage career in the minds of many who have enjoyed his work over the years. Very sad.
