For those familiar with design work by McDonnell Douglas (and later Boeing) in the 1990s for a blended wing body airliner but also the Tupolev Tu-404 superjumbo blended wing body airliner designed in Russia in the 1990s, the decision by Alaska Airlines last month to place optional orders for the 250 passenger Z4 blended wing body design envisaged by JetZero is a big deal because JetZero is preparing to begin flight tests of the Pathfinder 1/8th scale technology demonstrator for the Z4 and it indicates that the airline industry is finally interested in a passenger blended wing body.
