Four historic planes brought out in one day at Fantasy of Flight. The Albatros and Sikorsky for test flights, and the two Fokker’s for engine tests. Things get a little hot when the D-VIII catches fire briefly… Looks like a pretty exciting day out there.

Love seeing the Wildcat fly, but the P-51D is my favorite out there. Fantasy of Flight is definitely a bucket list kind of place.

I was just out there this past Thursday and had a great time. Saw Kermit fly the Grumman Wildcat and it was just wonderful to see and hear up close. I tip my hat to Kermit and applaud what he is doing to preserve this fading history.

Sign of a great experienced pilot… knowing your plane and situation, and when to have a fire extinguisher on standby.
I’ll give you that. Kermit was certainly on top of the possibilities at start up. Also… I bet they won’t be tieing down the tail in the future. I saw how Kermit was trying to get it free to move it while the others were dealing with the flames.

You can hear Kermit briefing his crew about the fire risk, and ask for an extinguisher to be ready; it wasn’t exactly ready for instant use though, was it!
I thought the same thing too. Appears the video was edited a bit in that segment too, which leads me to believe there was a little more fumbling around and delay getting the extinguisher out.

They seem a little caught off guard there with the fire on the D-VIII. Think it wouldn’t have been such an unexpected shocker considering the rotary engine they’re testing.
