The perfect display adversary for Nieuport 17 G-BWMJ.

Yes because it represents a Series 253 Albatros D.III built by Oesterreichische Flugzeugfabrik AG (Oeffag) in Austria (Wiener-Neustadt), for the Austro-Hungarian air force.
As such it’s fitted with a 225hp Austro-Daimler engine, as opposed to a Mercedes. This resulted in a rounded nose.Andy
Many thanks,
Mike

Fantastic. What wouldn’t you give to see that coming round the curve at Old Warden. All credit to the team that built that beautiful aeroplane.

Any ideas why it has a rounded front cowling instead of the usual wide spinner?

A fantastic project.
Koloman Mayrhofer and Eberhard Fritsch have done very well with this aeroplane over a lot of years.
Well done to Tex too for a sucessful first flight.
