Albatros replica flies in Germany

Normally prefer WW2 types , but not only does it look fantastic it sounds fantastic too .

Yes because it represents a Series 253 Albatros D.III built by Oesterreichische Flugzeugfabrik AG (Oeffag) in Austria (Wiener-Neustadt), for the Austro-Hungarian air force.
As such it’s fitted with a 225hp Austro-Daimler engine, as opposed to a Mercedes. This resulted in a rounded nose.

Fantastic. What wouldn’t you give to see that coming round the curve at Old Warden. All credit to the team that built that beautiful aeroplane.

Any ideas why it has a rounded front cowling instead of the usual wide spinner?

Koloman Mayrhofer and Eberhard Fritsch have done very well with this aeroplane over a lot of years.
