Album Covers

Just come back from Southend Vulcan day, while there i got Bruce to sign my copy of Maidens single Aces High. This set me thinking of how many albums covers have aircraft on them. This is what i dug u from my collection. Any more you can think of?

Aside from album covers, how about music videos/themed songs:

Ultravox – Reap the Wild Wind (Spitfire, Swordfish, Catalina, biplane fighter?)

One Travis song had a Me109 (Buchon).

The The – Sweet Bird of Truth

are 3 that spring to mind:cool:

Not a whole airplane, but what the hey…

I was searching for a particular album cover from the Spitfire Big Band, and couldn’t find the one I was thinking of. But I did come across those you see below… never heard any of them, so I dunno what they’re like…

Incidentally the Godspeed You! Black Emperor album cover that Fluffy posted is from their album “Yanqui U.X.O.”.

Not my taste musically but I’ve seen him do some impressive displays in the Harvard

There’s an album cover by Godspeed You Black Emperor (I think, or Explosions in the Sky, one of those) showing napalm being dropped over Vietnam. One of the sickest album covers, ever.

I’ve finished going through my LP collection. The last in alphabetical order is Wishbone Ash’s Double Live Dates album from 1973 – it has a small underside image of a DC-3 at the top of the sleeve casting a much larger shadow on the sand below.

Other than “The Wings of History” series, “The Sounds of the Aeroplane at War 1939-45” and “Salute in Sound” I have several ‘original soundtrack’ LPs – Air America, Iron Eagle, Top Gun, BoB, 633 Squadron, “Tunes of Glory” (JPs) and, lastly, “The Last Farewell” (ship’s company and Royal Marine Band of H.M.S. Ark Royal) with a great sunset picture of the Ark – deck full of Buccaneers and Phantoms.

Finally, at a carboot last weekend saw an LP with a DH125 on it “Up, Up and Away” by the Jim Webb Soul Supply.

That’s me done, Roger Smith.

If I can’t have “Aces High” (which I can’t – it was a single) it has to be the incomparable “Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters”.

Second is Budgie – “Sqwauk”

Equal 3rd – Deke Leonard “Iceberg” and Blue Oyster Cult “Secret Treaties”

Lindisfarne’s 1979 album “The News” has it’s title on the front sky-written (over Lindisfarne) by a Sopwith Pup watched by a Conquistador on a horse!. On the rear cover the sky-writing is only half done as the Pup goes down in flames.

John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band “Shaved Fish” from 1974 or 75 has a small image of a B-17 – although this is a model.
