Hi all, I tried to post this last night but had PC problems ! On Jeremy Vine show yesterday lunch time on radio 2, they had a Robert Fripp on the show talking about his uncle Alfie & about him being shot down in 1939/40 . Made intresting listening. You might get the show on BBCI player. For those old enough to remember King Crimson, Robert Fripp was the guitarist in that group & many others.

Bluerobin….I was going to put it there, but was worried I might be off topic.
Cheers

Alan125…Thanks for the reply,it was a general question. But I was unaware
of the unwanted interest he had to contend with, no doubt a gestapo gun
at his head with the words “Now smile for the camera”.
Many thanks.

What exactly do you mean by “What happened when he got home” – he was initially suspected of collusion with the Germans by virtue of a “Photograph captured in Germany” – but on 4 August 1945 it was decided to take no action against him as there was no offence, does this help?

Alfie Fripp – R.I.P.

See also http://therealgreatescape.com/alfie-fripp/ where it mentions his pilot, Flying Officer M. J. Carey who was shot down by fighters along with his crew Sgt A. T Fripp (observer) and AC Nelson (Gunner) on a recce of Wesel-Bocholt which is north west of Essen. all three were reported as prisoners.

Sadly, F/O Casey was one of the 50 murdered in The Great Escape.

See also – from 2009 http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/4230742.Emotional_return_to____Great_Escape____site/

“Speaking from Zagan, Mr Fripp told the Echo: β€œI’m very pleased to have said goodbye to my pilot. I’m sure he’s much happier up there than we are down here. He was a very nice bloke and very friendly. He got married two days after I did, on September 8 1939, and we flew out to France on September 30.”

Well, after almost 69 years they are together again.
