Quick question chaps,
How come a fair few of Alitalia’s fleet are registered with the Irish prefix EI- are these leased as some of there new build 777’s are Irish registered and there new EMB 170’s are?. But all there Airbuses are I-.

That would be my guess.
There is an international leasing firm based in Ireland. All aircraft they lease out carry EI registrations. There are a few exceptions, but that is the general rule.
Very few airlines actually buy their aircraft these days. All but the BIG BIG carriers with usualy partly lease, partly own their fleets.
