Auch! the airline has only one month to survive if the government doesn’t act. They are urgently in need of a new restructuring plan. In october, such plan was already released, which said that 2700 jobs had to disappear.
Last week, their worse financial result was released: a netto loss in 2003 of 551 million euros.
Don’t have dictionairy with me and I can’t find English articles yet, only dutch -> http://www.gva.be/nieuws/Economie/default.asp?art={6A5291CE-1D5D-40EC-B5A2-DB135DAFBC99}.
I think it’s better for the airline to go bankrupt now before things get worse. I don’t know much about the financial circumstances in the Italian government, but such a huge loss (and then there is also the huge debt probably!) is difficult to repair.

yeah, the fact Sabena were only ever in the Black for one operational year of their History has no bearing on that…

Now we will find out if the EU rules apply to all. The EU forced the Belgians to let Sabena fail in 11/2001. Will they do the same with AZ? Rules regarding the euro (budget deficit) seem to apply only to the smaller states. Will it be the same with the airlines too?
Where did you get that story from? The story behind the bankruptcy is very complicated, and the EU only played a very small role in the process. It’s all thanks to Swissair 😡

It would be outrageous if AZ and AF/KLM merged. Well against all known competition laws
Even if they did, they should all be allowed to keep their own identities.

Actually , AZ reached a commercial agreement with AF.
The Italian gov has a project to split AZ into 2 parts : the good guys (basically pilots , stewards) who are profitable and the bad guys (the others) who are loosing money.
The plan who be to get rid of the bad guys and asap merge AZ to AF-KLM.I bet the unions will not like it !!!
Nor will european competition laws

I agree with A380!! as i flew them on I-BIXJ and I-BIXO (A321’s) and as an italian carrier they offered us japenese biscuits. The flight scared me to death(terbulance) and the landing was like a bloody roller-coaster and the flight was delayed. The airline didnt even fly us back they put us on a BA plane. At least we got there!!!!
1/10

Sorry to say this guys but i would love to see Alitalia go bust or bankrupt. I simply loath the airline (if it is worthy of that title..).

Does Air France have so much money?

I heard tonight that AF and AZ reached an agreement. As far as I understood AF is ganna take over AZ.
The EU approved the operation. To be continued….

Hes getting a 767 as well 😮 His golden 737 BBJ is always with us here at Farnborough, as well as an entourage of other private jets.
I wonder if the local council will be swayed to change the licence agreement on the airport to allow the 767 to land, in exchange for some of Mr Abromaviches big money!

no, no, just laughing at the Gooners… And Real Beckham CF (apparently there’s a rumour that they have more than just the one player, though, although you’d never guess it listening to the english press…).
I do fancy Chelsea’s chances for the semi, though, and if Ranieri delivers the Champions League, I won’t have to worry about Abramovich (and just to give this thread a semblance of being aviation related, his Boeing 767-300ER, the ex N349HA of Hawaiian Air is currently having a VIP interior put in at Jet Aviation here in Basel (who, as regular readers will know were my former employers)) trying to Poach St. Martin of Derry (that’s Martin O’Neill to you). 😉

Not doing too bad at the moment. I see a Chelsea-AC Milan final, now that Arsenal and Real Madrid both got bounced.

Good point SN Brussels Airlines also took off quite fast after bankruptcy and is now barely making profit, but still it’s making profit!:D
