Several people have contacted me and mentioned that Allan Wright, former Spitfire pilot with 92 Squadron during the Battle of Britain, had passed away. I was surprised there had been no mention of this, and Google trawls etc threw up nothing. Those “in the know” believed that he was still with us, although the source of this information was Dilip Sarkar’s recent book “The Few”. I have not seen it, but evidently his death is reported on page 246.
According to (hopefully!) reliable information Allan Wright is still with us. This subject has been discussed elsewhere on another forum , but since the rumour of Allan’s passing has been gathering momentum of late I thought I would just post this information here.
In the event that forum members have read in this book a statement that Allan Wright has passed away it is evidently (and thankfully) incorrect.
An unfortunate error.

Thank you, all of which is most gracious.

You are quite right, Peter.
I have also ammended my post to remove the word “unforgivable” following Dilip’s posting. After all, ’tis the season of goodwill – and one would also hope that Allan and his family would forgive the mistake.

Should not his first name be spelt Allan and not Alan?

Great to see you here – I think there are many fans of your work here (I am certainly one). Unfortunate mistake, that’s all – and ironic that someone who is known to research so carefully should appear here in the light of such an uncharacteristic error!

Alan Wright
I am absolutely delighted to hear that my information, which was on good authority, regarding Group Captain Wright’s status was incorrect. Having beeen in contact with so many of The Few over the years it is, understandably, difficult to keep up with everyone personally – anyway, hands up, I made a mistake, for which I will apologise to Alan personally, of course. Fortunately ‘The Few’ will very soon be produced as a softback second edition, in which I will ensure that the error is corrected, as it will be in the smaller paperback third edition in due course. So, ‘unfortunate’ yes, but ‘unforgiveable’…. I think not.
