Alpha1 is alive and well: Official Statement

Well chaps, firstly please forgive my absence, I’ve been in the USA over the last few days on business and have only returned this morning.

Obviously there are questions arising over the status of Alpha1 Airways at present with the recent closing down of the site and delay in the launch. There are several reasons behind our decision to put the launch back, the main one being very positive indeed.

The reason for my visit to the States was to source investment to secure the long term future for Alpha1. The aim for the airline has never been to just operate OXFCBG, this route was seen as a building block using an ACMI lease and acting as a ticket provider as opposed to having a full blown AOC. Our long term ambition has always been to build a successful regional airline that can be an airline in its own right with a full AOC and comprehensive route network. ‘Piggy backing’ on another AOC has never been seen as an attractive long term strategy by anyone involved in Alpha1.

As a result of my visit to the States a substantial investment has been secured, enabling the airline to pursue our ambitions for a full AOC at a much earlier stage than originally envisaged. With this investment now being made available, Alpha1 has been able to skip forward to a much more advanced stage in the airlines’ business strategy.

It was thus decided by the board of directors that because of the new direction the company is able to take, coupled together with teething problems with the airlines booking engine, that the launch should be delayed.

The long term future of Alpha1 has now been secured and the advanced business plan is being put into action. This will see Alpha1 have a more sizeable route network and a fleet of its own.

The issues with the web site and booking engine are now being resolved and a new booking engine specialist team has been bought in to build a new system. The geocities web site was required as the FTP for the old site failed under a great deal of pressure. The host will be up again within the next 48 hours.

Standby, things are about to get very exciting! Alpha1 Airways is here to stay for the long run and will be an airline in its own right. Please bear with us during this period of restructuring. Needless to say, our fleet is no longer going to involved PA-31s!

That my dear friend is a load of cr_p – FTP won’t “fail under pressure” as FTP is the technology used to move files to/from servers, and has nothing to do with dealing with high traffic loads on web sites. Your web team are bullsh!tting you, and making you look far less than the pro you want to be.

Suggest you have a word with Community.co.uk, in Kidlington, who own Ticketing Solutions.

Congratulations, I must say that I was ‘concerned’ when the news broke on the regional TV news broadcasts. But as you say it is well worth the delay, well done.
Good luck on the Jetstreams too, nice aircraft, I have a friend who flies them for Eastern.

I’ll be straight up with the fleet plans; we’re currently looking at a number of BAe Jetstream 31s.

Dont Eastern have some going spare soon?

I always thought that CBG could probably handle a scheduled service to the likes of EDI or GLA. Personally I reckon somewhere like CDG or AMS is unlikely to have a little interest from CBG.

Sorry about the lack of Oxford opinions – I’m not so familiar with Oxford and it’s catchment area etc.

All the best to you Martin. I wish the venture well. Look forward to trying you out on a standby basis thanks to a staff travel agreement with Monarch (tee-hee) :dev2: ????!!!
