Two more posts. Neither relating to commercial aviation
Locked.

If anybody is prepared to bring any civil aviation content to this thread they should post away.
If it is merely somewhere to discuss the personality of the founder, it will be moved.
That’s a promise.

Point taken, but next time you have to make such a point please word it in a slightly less patronising way.
Mr Halstad has clearly moved on. It’s time everyone else did the same.

Eroupe, Asia and North America this year 😉 They chartered an An-124 to carry the cars.
I do agree MH was brave trying to give it a go, but personally I think he spent too much time and effort on it when he should have realised earlier on that it wasn’t going to happen.
But all the best to him if he has found somewhere else he thinks he can make his living.
Hindsight is a wonderfull thing, isn’t it.

Maybe they assumed he would burn out quickly and let him go ahead jethro?

My twopenny worth. Mr Halsteads over enthusiasm should have been curbed by those who should have known better.

martin@flyalpha1.co.uk worked last time i coresponded with.
Just out of interest, when was that exactly?
Oh, God!
Not this again…….
Cue the usual suspects!
lol. it does provide some form of an update, ok it cannot be offically verified at the moment, but at least it is not another ‘alpha-one bashing’ thread, although on reflection of some of the comments posted I am beginnig to think otherwise…
Personally, I wish Martin every success with whatever he attempts to do for a living…it takes huge courage and commitment to want to go into business for yourself, let alone start your own airline!
Did anyone else notice the very small article in this months Airliner World that Skycommuter (the airline that took on the Oxford-Cambridge route, has stopped flying as well because sales where not as high as had been expected!)…I find it quite comical that they even decided to take on the route once Alpha One decided to pull out of it, as it just goes to prove that Martin made the right decision in the first place! 😀

I think it was safe to say the Alpha1 was a no-go many months ago, and that MH had diverted his interest into the Gumball3000 rally to raise money for charity.
If he has opened up a record shop, then all the best!
Bit of a come down from “mr baby Brason” and a strange way to raise money for charity (by driving cars at dangerous speeds in Europe) but I would agree with the vague sentiment!

Well I still think the ’18 year old’ had big enough balls to give it a go, and to hell with the doom mongers !……..
I completely agree.
Its a shame others don’t.
Ok so he may have failed. But its trying that gives him the bigger set of balls.

That said… I don’t think the demand for record shops is quite the same as it was when Richard Branson was a “Virgin” ?

Agreed, however it does say he told BBC South Today. I can’t find anything to support this – we’ll have to wait and see I guess.
I just searched through 25 pages of articles mentioning either “alpha”, “alphaone” or “one.
Nothing to support these wikipedia claims yet.

With all due respect, Sandy, I think the evidence available is fairly conclusive.
A website which has not been updated for months.
No email contact available for the airline.
A phone number which is no longer operational.
No aircraft, no staff, no way to buy tickets.
No way to contact Mr. Halstead.
I think it is fairly safe to suggest that we will not be seeing AlphaOne flying, at least with Mr. Halstead’s intervention.
Having styled himself as an aviation entrepreneur, a la Sir Richard Branson, does anyone else find it interesting that he may now have an interest in a record shop?

Only those who wish it to be true will believe it untill something official is said.
You would as soon flame others for stating somethiung with certainty with just hearsay to back them up.
It all may well be true, but lets wait for something offical and irrefutable.

And before you all start flaming me, please remember Wikipedia is essentialy “open source”. Anyone who registers can contribute to anything and even create articles etc. Just recently there was a series of complaints filed against Wikipedia because of falsified information being entered into articles about Airbus. These articles led any unwitting reader to beleive Airbus were leading every market, etc. I believe there was also something similar happening to the Boeing articles, though that was more rumour added into the discussion about the Wikipedia news articles covering this Airbus thing.

With all due respect, Wikipedia can be written by anyone.
This is far from a concrete source.
Martin gathered a rather large following of doom givers. Some people on other fora were downright bitter about his plans (even pre foul ups). I wouldn’t put it past either of them to type this up.
It may well be true, but I would want to hear it from someplace less open to anyone to write what they want.

[Edit: I also note the wikipedia scribe notes Martin said this to BBC south. Yet there is no link and I currently only find 3 or 4 articles for Alpha One on BBC news.]
