Unfortunately the mainstream media here doesn’t seem to do a lot of research into aviation subjects and receive a lot of flak on forums. There is a great boo by Ian Brodie about this aircraft’s history and (mostly-in-the-UK) restoration: http://www.abebooks.com/9780790007175/Hurricane-Rediscovery-Restoration-P3351-Alpine-0790007177/plp

The fuselage, wings and centre section, plus woodwork were done here.

All of the fitting out was done in NZ.

This is one of the ones already sent so that order doesn’t count.

:D:D

It sounds as though it will be going to a good home. Has there ever been a private/”warbird” Hurricane based in France?

Destination is now reportedly narrowed down to France

Surely it was agreed years ago, we would send NO MORE Hurricanes to France.

There are several photos of P3351 on this WONZ thread, from wrecked components in 1994, flying 2001 – 2006, to static display 2012.

Did you mean “I think it is a pity it is not staying in NZ”? 🙂

I feel lucky to have seen her fly at three or four shows, and static at another, and I’m hoping she will fly at her new home.

Concur that this Hurricane’s place in Hurri history is assured as is Sir Tim’s. I think it is a pity it is now staying in NZ which has lots of BoB heritage (not least, Sir Keith Park and other amazing aircrew).

It would be nice to see it more ‘Mk1’. But that would cost a lot of money and searching

Yes this aircraft formed part of the flypast over Edgar Kain’s funeral party.

re;

I recall reading flypast when she first flew, was she flown at Cobber Cains funeral?

I believe two to three wrecks were combined to make up hat you see now. One was BH229 according to reports.

Looking at the recovery photographs this is a very much reconstructed machine -how much original material was able to be salvaged from what is shown on the flat rack is one of the dilemas between conservation and restoration to flight.

This is perhaps one of the most historic Hurricanes around. It flew in the Battle of France, Battle of Britain, with No. 71 (Eagle) Squadron and in the Battle of Murmansk.

It is worth reminding people that P3351 is a big part of the reason why so many other Hurricanes are flying in Britain now, because Sir Tim Wallis set up in partnership with Tony Ditheridge – formerly of AJD Engineering – in order to restore P3351. The partnership went on to become Hawker Restorations, which has since restored several more to flight. This kiwi connection with Hawker Restorations seems to have been lost on many as time has gone by.

Great news indeed!

Would be nice to have a show dedicated to the Hurricane like the 1 back in 1996 for the Spitfire, the only problem I would fear the numbers of Hurris around!!

Well the arrival of this Hurricane would mean 10 potentially airworthy/nearing restoration completion Hurricanes in Europe (or the UK if she comes home), but I very much doubt we’ll ever see them all together sadly.

Now what I would love to see is P3351 and P2902 flying with P9374 and N3200, all with the black and white undersides. Maybe slap some black and white under the Blenheim and have them all formate on that!

Great News!!

The Hurricane seems to be the forgotten brother of the Spitfire.

Would be nice to have a show dedicated to the Hurricane like the 1 back in 1996 for the Spitfire, the only problem I would fear the numbers of Hurris around!!

There is seven in the uk currently more or less airworthy with others to follow. Would be nice to get them all together.
