Alpine Fighters Hurri to be auctioned in Oz!!!

http://www.bonhamsandgoodman.com.au/

Read a short snippet in The Sun last week and wondered what Hurri it was. Bit surprised it the Alpine fighters example. Lets hope it comes back to the uk.

Isn’t £2 million quite a high price?

Not that i would argue if i had it to hand..

Why?

ANY historic aircraft is viable to be put up for sale, at any time. It just depends entirely on the owners’ whim at the time.

Just because a (fairly rare) Hurricane has been put up for sale, does not mean that it will sell immediately, or even that it will leave the country.

How long was ex-Historic Flying Spitfire XVIII SM845 on the market for? Six, seven years? OK, it’s left the country, but it’ll doubtless be back!

Likewise, even if the Hurri leaves the country, there’s others in the pipeline….

I seems an odd time to sell with the BofB 70th Anniversary this year and presumably more air show bookings on the cards

HAC News page: “We have decided to put up for sale our Hurricane (G-HURI), as a precursor to the arrival of our original Hawker Fury which is due to fly this Summer”

To be honest, I’m too busy salivating over the prospect of the Fury to be all that saddened by the sale of the Hurricane. Think of the formation possibilities! How about a seven-ship 1930’s formation: Fury/Gladiator/Gladiator/Hind/Demon/Nimrod I/Nimrod II?

Earlier posts have hit the nail on the head: we do have quite a few Hurricanes, and I for one am all up for increasing the variety of types to see in the air. That said, the HAC Hurricane is a particularly fine one, and it will be sad to see it go if it does get sold. The sight of a three-ship “vic” of Hurricanes at Legends was pretty special…

The HAC websites news page has some useful updates on it…see HERE.

‘it is expected however that we will continue operating it for the whole of this season and we are continuing to take bookings for this summer as usual’.

Cheers, Huw

Volunteering to do work [ala AirNZ] does not entitle one to a share of ownership or return if an item is subsequently sold . The only way that it could would be for a formal agreement to be signed, sealed and deliverd. The old I said, she said, we all said, has little or no standing at law.

AirNZ should be happy that the public saw it flying. Afterall they lost hundreds of millions of tax payer and shareholder funds through incompetance,

Which brings to mind a recent Canadian Spitfire deal….. 😉

Hi all, it’s a particularly fine Hurricane now that HAC have spent a fortune on her.

Quite clearly i wasn’t.

Of all the pictures i’ve seen i haven’t seen any of the Hurri, hence the reason i asked.

Looked like one hell of a show mind, especially the mind blowing backdrop.

i see that the alpine fighters Hurri was absent from warbirds over Wanaka over the easter weekend. Has it left the country?

Clearly you were not there to see that it was it fact at Wanaka, where it is based , and on display , though it did not leave the ground .

P3351 was indeed on the flightline at Wanaka last weekend, however it wasn’t included in the flying display. A thread at Wings Over New Zealand (see below for link) has a forum member who talked to Stu Goldspink, he explained that this was due to insurance costs.

Yeah – but it would be on the east coast! Be OK if it flew out west, occasionally

G’day All

We have more New Zealanders in Australia than actually live in NZ (well seems like it) so if the Hurricane came to Australia, then a whole load of “other” NZ’ers could see it.

So…… what’s the problem?

cheers
