Alternative engine power sources?

OK, I’ve asked a few mates that are also doing design work and looked myself but found nothing. (Apart from Richard Branson talking a bit about ethanol)

Is any aircraft manufacturer looking at alternative power sources once av gas becomes too expensive?

There is bound to be someone doing something?

The Tu-155 and 156 were a experimental version of Tu-154. The centre engine was powered by Gas fuel (hydrogen). Not sure if the project was continued, but at least one ‘155 was made with the ‘156 proposed as a full scale production version.

Well, I think engine manufacturers do look for alternative power sources, but because there are not very much engine manufacturers, they will simply not tell the public about their new engines until they’ve signed a contract (or not) with aircraft manufacturers.

:S AvGas is just a better version of petrol, common in piston engined aircraft. Are you confusing it with Jet-A1 fuel?

i doubt many aircraft manufacturers are, but i expect most aircraft engine manufacturers will have a R+D department looking a whole host of ways of making engines more efficient, and at alternative fuels.
