That’s a bit like a mugger saying………..
I don’t know why are you lot are so bothered that I knocked down that old dear and nicked her purse
I got a pension book and some great cash, which I wouldn’t otherwise have had
Accept the realities of life, you old wrinklies
Mugging is a crime. Trespass on a licensed airfield is a crime. Furthermore both types of behaviour are irresponsible, inconsiderate and antisocial. Maybe that’s why so many posters to this thread have strong views on the subject.

Can’t believe you old ladies are still getting your knickers in a twist over this.
We got to see some great pics we wouldn’t otherwise have seen.
Get a grip guys!

I won’t post links as they are horrific, but there are pictures out there of some poor soul that went down a running engine and he was literally minced… He was also an aircraft engineer and was caught out in a momentary lapse of concentration, and he was aware of the dangers, there was also the engineer killed when a dak collapsed on him….. He too was aware of the dangers.. Airports and active fields are dangerous places to work, one has to have ones wits about one at all times, and that is the short and sweet reason these guys need to keep away, pissing around in a 747 cockpit could have disasterous effects later down the line for those working on the thing.

Well if that is true it just reinforces what people said

I can’t believe that you lock the door but don’t disconnect the aircraft battery when you are done.
You wouldn’t want to fanny about connecting and disconnecting the batteries on Lindy every week, trust me.

Saw that,
just shows you some people are to thick to read the thread and know you were not referring to the one but to the East Mids Aeropark one also being discused, his IQ seems to be on par with his shoe size..

I’ve noticed some colourful language on 28DL aimed at me, so I’d like to clarify my previous comments.
I wasn’t referring to the Nimrod entry as theft. It was the after hours museum visit.
I used to like that forum, but it’s become quite clear to me that a significant number of them have no respect for others property or privacy. There always used to be a degree of respect, that forum has seriously gone downhill 🙁

Who said anything about breaking in? If it was open its fair game to them.
As a supporter of the site (28 days later) you will know full well that these ‘urban explorers’ regularly break in to gain entry… The nimrod is a perfect example. Its MOD property, it was on a secure airfield and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t left open for all to just wander through. Breaking in… yes, they do it regularly. If both you and I frequent the 28 days later site then you’ll know thats exactly what they do.

The Nimrod is not abandoned, the sensitive gear has been removed, I think you will find some of the retired ones were sold with the proviso that some of them have anti Det runs carried out on them, so if ever needed the could be generated..
Sorry to hear about your health problems Paul 🙁
I think by now there is some interest being shown in the Manston one and the incursions into RAF Coningsby.

So your saying that people should have to damaged their own aircraft and often historic aircraft by fitting some sort of lock to their aircraft to keep these scum who have no right to enter it out?????
Most military aircraft do not have the facility to lock them, they didn’t need it.If I walk past your car or house and see the door is unlocked or a window open, does that make them fair game?
The we asked permission but it was not for coming, so we broke in anyway…. The owners had said NO but why the heck respect their wishes….. Are you by any chance Genie?
.
In answer to your questions
Damaging military aircraft by fitting locks
No I would expect the MOD Police or Rockapes to provide security.
My House or car
They are never unlocked and I have a full range of security measures and neither look abandoned unlike the Nimrod.
Genie
😀 No you will have to look elsewhere for him. I am 66 years old with spinal and leg problems who can walk 20 feet at most without stopping. I don’t own a camera and can’t even upload pics from my phone without help:o
BTW if you look on the thread #4 I did warn people about just such a happening.
Also 28days later has closed the thread saying
“Right in the interest of both forums and everyone else’s sanity I’m locking the thread for now, ya load of Nimrods! “

The thing that would worry me if I owned an aircraft used for taxying demonstrations/take-of runs is not knowing what someone might have done when you discover persons unknown have been in it.
You could be thrown into a whole world of doubt as to if they just had a mooch and left of if they were nefarious and did it with the intention of sabotage or having it away with something important. I mean would *you* want to be the guy in the hot seat doing a take-off run not knowing if something vital to safety/stopping has been messed with?
I imagine the time it would take to check everything would be laborious and if your insurance company knew someone had been in/around the aircraft without authorization they might well cancel your coverage.
Discovering someone has been in the aircraft could have financial repercussions in terms of preventing planned runs/exhibiting of the aircraft which draw paying crowds that in turn funds keeping the aircraft operational.

I feel things are being taken somewhat out of context. I do not condone burglary or breaking and entering, my mother has been burgled in the past and it was traumatic. I don’t feel these people have a right to break into a locked private area or building in use. I was simply stating that in most of these instances the areas or items in question are at least to a certain degree disused or abandoned and in that case I see no reason for us all to get our knickers in a twist, provided of coarse no damage of any kind is being done nor anyone’s property or privacy is being put at risk.
As for the issue of the East Midlands Airpark, I can understand how some may feel a little cheated but on the other hand I would imagine that the majority of these visitors would have visited and paid at others times. I don’t do it myself but I would assume that part of the attraction is the nighttime solitude and the ability to be artistic combined with the thrill of being a bit naughty. Everyone likes an adrenalin high now and then, we just have different methods of achieving it.
