I’ve just got to find a way of getting back there again. It’s either that or YAM!!:D

Jeebus! I’m not at all envious of your trip, oh no… 🙂

Breathtaking photos. Also a bit heartbreaking/humbling. Thanks for sharing.

Here are a few more pictures. While I have a few more in the collection, what I’ve posted are pretty well the only ones worthy of sharing (some stuff not in frame, or just bad pics in general). Sadly, during the tour, you must remain in the bus. You can’t imagine how badly I wanted to get out and get better shots of what I was seeing!

On a side note… I’m re-working my aircraft photos on Flickr (uploading and reorganizing photos by locations and dates). It’s an on-going process for me, but if anyone would like to take a look, here’s the link:

Next month, we’re scheduled to host an Air Show here at Kirtland AFB. From what I’m told, it will be the first Air Show in roughly 5 years (I’ve been here just over 3). I’m excited to see what all gets brought in, and hopefully will be able to get some pics of the CV-22 Osprey (which is stationed here).

Thanks for the info Rob, just realised I purchased a car from near you!
Would love to see any more pics of AMARG.
CS I believe that most of the C-130s operators will return their aircraft to US storage, it’s still a valuable type in service and for spares.

When taking the tour, they told us that a lot of the aircraft could be restored to flying condition within 90 – 120 days. Of course, there are also a lot of aircraft there that are being used for parts (as was obvious of the KC-135 and the C-5s),and will never fly again.

I see the Norwegian Air Force has a couple of C-130s there.
I wonder what the story is behind them. Stored, sold back or returned after lease expired?

Fantastic sight, funny to see aircraft of my generation in the boneyard!
Like the solitary Grumman Trader, looks like it could uncovered and flown away.
