One assumes that the lot is subject to a reserve.

Maybe if the seller wants it to go to a museum for other people to be able to see he may have to reduce his asking price for it to find a satisfactory home, i hope the winner will be public spirited enough to keep it visible to all.

From the listing details: “….. [the seller] very much hope[s] that a specialist museum will be interested in preserving it for present and future generations and to understand the incredible progress made in WWII electronics during those war years.”

It will have to be a very well heeled specialist museum to afford to pay, potentially, as much as £260,000 (based on the upper estimate and dependent on what is the buyer’s premium – the listing says both 10% plus VAT and 30% inclusive of VAT). I’d be surprised if there are many such museums, particularly in the UK, in the market for a replica, however fine it may be, of the cockpit/forward fuselage of a Lancaster. It is a lot that, I suspect, may go unsold at auction.

Based on a recent contact with the auction house their estimate on its value is  £100-150K!
