I don’t see the point of flying so close upside down to get a photo of a rare warbird with a aerobatic plane .It may be clever and the pilots are good but still if they need to do that to advertise an airshow something is wrong.

Here’s another great Rob Holland shot, inverted above Jim Tobul’s Corsair ‘Korean War Hero’, posted on his Facebook page a couple of days ago

I See your point, judging by the varied aircraft selection in the photos. Not quite inverted over the other aircraft, but I don’t think many of us would like to see that happening for real! Super sharp photos.

Don’t see the point of what? Aerobatics? Formation flying? Airshows?
The point of these mixed-formation photoshoots is to get publicity out in the local media (TV news, web, newspapers) for the forthcoming airshow in the days leading up to it. The performers like them too, as it gives them something different to put on their website and in their publicity material and display boards for the likes of the ICAS convention held in Vegas each winter (where organisers and participants get together and bookings for the following year are often made). I’ve been lucky enough to participate in a couple of these shoots myself, as long as it is well-briefed with experienced paricipants (as in this case), the risk is minimalised as far as it can be.

Just have to ask –why . All good until summat goes pear shaped,i daresay there is a trick of perspectives but still don’t see the point.

A last minute replacement for the Reds?

In most of those shots he is actually way off to one side of the other aircraft, nearer the camera ship, if he was able to fly inverted directly above the other plane I assume he wouldn’t have much of a get out in the event of power loss?
Nice shot of the BD5.

Photos of him taking the photos, but where are the ‘amazing’ photos he took?
