Hi all,
(i think) i have just bought a little Gem in the local oxfam shop,
it is a 1979 First edition Print of a painting by Robert Taylor ,Entitled, “Hurricane”. for £8
the glass is filthy and ive given it a quick Clean, but the frame looks like a professional job, all be it not in the style i personally would like,
signed in Pencil by Robert Stanford Tuck,
have any of you found simaler finds in charity shops ??.
Funny thing is I put a search on the web and cannot find a picture of it, it cant be that rare, but I suppose £8 is cheap for a Taylor print ??
I will put a photo of it on later ,when my daughter returns my caera later today .

Don’t worry about the discolouration of your print. At least the signature was in pencil. Some weren’t and have suffered the same kind of fading as the print.
You’re not wrong Kev. I’ve seen one RT print from the same era, which IIRC was signed by Galland and either Bader or Johnson. Sadly they must have been in ink, as nearly 30 years later, hanging in an RAF office, there was almost no trace of either signature.

along with many books and models, my grandma managed to get me 2 robert taylor prints, ‘spitfire’ with bader and johnson’s signatures and ‘Lancaster’ with cheshire’s, only in cheap frames mind. I think she paid a nominal sum for them. After years of storage, they are back up, pride of place.
She also got me an original pic of a spitfire, by a local artist called colin Bradley. Add to this my collection of helmets, googles, vulcan altimeter etc and i have a nice little collection going on(Should get them out of the box and on display really), just need an aircraft now, she never got any Gr-1’s in before she left us.

I was at a boot sale last year and was looking at this forlorn lightning picture that was dusty and hanging out of the frame so I bought it for a quid and took it home and when i cleaned it up I found it had Roland Beaumont and Jimmy Dells signature on it.

So i am now going to have it re framed and put in my den (spare bedroom/ recreation of hiroshima post hbomb)

Brought a framed Taylor print the other sunday at a local carboot.
paid a few £s for it , not bad as the print is large and frame.Harrier by Robert Taylor is the print.
depicts 2 sea harrires in flight.
Nice one !!!!:)
My personal best find was a couple of years ago, whilst at Duxford, there was a RAF Museum Stall, on which in the corner rolled up ,were about 10 of Identical Sqn Prints depicting a Fe2B (I think thats the correct aircraft) which was signed in Pencil By a WW1 British Aviator and and his Observer,
of which the Pilot had won the VC ,
these Sqn prints had been in there store room for many many years, and as such they were selling them off for a few quid each,
I jumped at it as you never get WW1 signatures these days, and being it was from the RAF Museum, You knew it was the genuine article,
I stored it somewhere and now cannot find it,stored it so safely I cant find it, Thats me all over :o.
My other Sqn print was of a Thunderbolt ,which i took to the last reunion of the 355th Fighter Group at Steeple Morden, also there were members of the 91st Bomb Group there, due to there age they said this was there last trip to the UK , (2004) i got about 10- 20 signatures that day, including one from one of there fighter aces, Ward Douglas,
we had been invited by the 355th on account of some investagative work we had done to find one of there servicemens crashsite .
its still one of my most treasured possesions 😀

Thanks Kev35,
Unfortunately it looks like a frame, there are 2 small “Pins” in the 2 top corners
of a Aluinium Frame, on the back it looks like a frame, with Board, and hanging wire, and brown Paper tape around the board to seal it,
it was framed by F.J.Harris of Bath ,in January 1980 ,
(there is a little Tag on the back).
Cor Imagine if it was a storage frame , that would be something ,
thanks again
Chris

Chris.
I may be wrong but that looks something like a storage frame which IIRC was available from the Military Gallery in the late 70’s and 80’s. take a look at the back of the frame and see if there is a groove running all around the back of the frame. if there is, there will be right angled brackets in each corner. These fit in the groove and are held in place with grub screws. Remove the vertical grub screws at the top corners of the frame and lift off the top section of frame. You never know, there may be more than one print in the frame.
Don’t worry about the discolouration of your print. At least the signature was in pencil. Some weren’t and have suffered the same kind of fading as the print.

Thanks Lads,
Yep Thats the one, But when I saw the original on the websites you showed me , well, Shock !!, Horror, it seems mine must have been hanging in direct sunlight, as it has lost some of its colour, and has a “Blue” effect 🙁
you can look at mine and see just what damage 30 years of sunlight can do to a print, (i am a little gutted ,but still pleased with it , its my “First ” robert Taylor, as I can never really afford the ones at the shows , and a first edition, so it will be going on the wall, Well with Mrs permission of course !!

This is it I think. Print No 109 signed by Robert Stanford Tuck 1979. Military Gallery values it at £25 but that was about 5 years ago. I found someone offering it on the net for £250.
Best Wishes.
Robert.

That is a great site! There seem to be five Hurricane related pictures by the artist, so check them out Merkle and see if you have a winner!:D
