dark light

Amazon "Octocopter" delivery drones.

Really don’t see how this is feasible. Might look good in a video where there are lots of open spaces to fly over and everyone has a nice big patio for it to land on, but what about urban areas where there are kids, the elderly and disabled, pets, telephone wires, etc? What if someone lives in a block of flats; will the thing try to fly up the stairs? What will happen when someone’s pet Rottweiler takes a dislike to it, or some Pikeys use it for air rifle practice?

Second hand ones i am not sure about.Waterstones i think is just up a bit and another one round the corner which has become a trendy coffee/book type place.
Because of the poor access to Cambridge now i tend to only go in when i have a list of things to get.

I wonder…..most Saturdays up to 2003 when we moved further South. I remember the camera shop too but only the odd visit there. But there used to be at least two if not three other second hand bookshops in the same street – have they all gone now? I always thought the University kept them going….:)

Interesting comment Mr T. I divide my book purchasing between Amazon, Waterstones a short car ride away and our local independent bookshop in town. I revelled in my book buying years in London but now with a 3 hour plus round trip and nearly £40 for the pleasure it’s no longer an option.

Can’t see it ever taking off here –

Very droll.

You’re absolutely right, though. If Amazon start this, others will follow and soon, there will be these blessed things everywhere.

Mind you, I would never deal with Amazon, ever. I can see the damage they are doing to the bookselling industry more than clearly.

Much better to get on a train, go into London and have a good browse among the excellent bookshops that abound there. The London Review of Books shop in Bloomsbury is especially good.

Trumper, that’s why I posted this. 😉

But it looks like on the film he is wearing new issue Amazon supplied boots.

With correct footwear not an issue.

No it isn’t…..walking that distance isn’t hard at all; especially if it is walking that distance indoors on perfectly flat concrete.

We regularly walk that distance for the fun of it but it is a different kettle of fish everyday, probably even worse on concrete.I hope they are supplied with really good supportive footwear.I wonder how many have strains and wear and tear that won’t heal whilst they can’t treat it.

It is not a big distance to do in one day, I would quite happily walk twice that up and down hill for fun. The thing is though, it is not one day, it is five days a week, every week. I did it for a company a few years ago and it is hard work. If you could get hold of a few clock cards that told the computer you were sweeping up, you might hit your target now and again …. or have time to sneak off for a cigarette 🙂 I have a mate who does exactly the same as was shown at Amazon but for ASOS. He is a blokes bloke (for want of a better description) but still has his feet in a foot spar as soon as he gets home and uses all kinds of creams for blistered feet. it is a lot of work for not a ot of money.

On the OP I have to agree with the Plug Meister, he of all people knows about these things 🙂

Really? Walking that far is hard enough…

No it isn’t…..walking that distance isn’t hard at all; especially if it is walking that distance indoors on perfectly flat concrete.

I do not know exactly how Amazon detail their pickers to collect orders and transfer them to the packing area but I understand this is controlled by some electronic device that counts-down the time allowed; I have some sympathy for the workers there but other than that, sorry, I do not see anything extraordinary about the distance they walk or the loads they have to contend with during their shift.

This story is really about ‘evil’ Amazon…..Panorama wouldn’t make a programme about anybody else.

I know Amazon staff have to work to pretty tight schedules…

…but I’ve never quite understood how walking eleven miles during a ten-hour shift was such a hardship?

Really? Walking that far is hard enough without lugging stuff and 10 hours shifts on nights.I know it works out at 1 mile an hour but every night.I feel sorry for them.
