Just out in the icelandic media!
A Boeing 777 enroute from Frankfurt to Dulles, TX Diverted into Keflavik Iceland earlier today. ATC got a call from the plane at 1300 hours, reporting a divertion due to engine shut down. At that time the aircraft was about 400 NM south of the island. The plane landed uneventfully at Keflavik at 1344. On board were 221 passengers.
AA seems to be having some troubles with their 777’s engines. This is the second time this year that an AA 777 diverts here!

Not to start another argument, but AA uses RR in their 777’s, UA has PW, AF has GE, as does BA in their older 777’s.
with all due respect.
Its GE engines BA’s older 777’s have. The newer ones have the trents.
GE was giving BA a hard time, so they switched to RR.

Even though this is discussed on another thread, I’ll make mention of it here. All these problems with 777 engines lately, and people want to fly a twin on sectors of 18-20 hours. No thanks.
100% agree

Indeed. 😉
By the way BigRedDog, too many immediate back to back posts for you. Try mixing in 2 different ‘paragraphs’ on one post to get 2 different points across as opposed to posting twice back to back. You’re killin’ me!!

But I will agree with you Matthew, shotty maintenance will cause any engine to fail.

I seem to see quite a few stories like this of UA/AA/AF and BA(?) 777s diverting due to engine problems or complete engine failure.
