American Airlines new livery revealed.

I liked the old shiny metal look. It also reflects heat better (it is important if you operate in the tropics like I did.)

Was just made aware of this great trip report on the first 77W flight to GRU.
Champaign served by the CEO and senior vice president on-board the flight! 😀
I also believe the upgrade he got was Tom Horton’s doing.

For those who don’t have time to read the whole review (although I advise you do if you have the time, it’s very detailed and well written), I’ll post part of the summary here.

“American is back.

The new Business Class seats are the most comfortable I have flown on. I managed to sleep very comfortably and the IFE is up the standards of a 5-star carrier. The food service, however, still needs improvement, as my dishes unfortunately weren’t what I was expecting. This, however, is one easy detail to fix and I’m sure Mr. Vahidi and his team will put some dedication and effort into making it better.

The new First Class, on the other hand, was a box full of perfection. The seat, the IFE, the service and the meals. All flawless. There’s rare chances for improvement there. Congratulations!

I would like to congratulate Mr. Tom Horton, Mr. Virasb Vahidi, and all American’s executives for working so hard in developing and bringing to life such an incredible product. My heart goes out to them for the effort and dedication and hope that the remaining 20 B777-300(ER) come out as beautiful as N717AN.”

I think I like it but I’m going to reserve judgement until I see it in the flesh. The thing I find odd is that in a country so proud of it’s flag they’ve changed the ‘stars and stripes’ to ‘stripes and stripes’. Maybe to give it a sense of movement?

I think I’m unusual in that I never really liked the previous livery but I do understand that it had been around for so long it was iconic to many.

What a shame 🙁 Still prefer the bare metal – quite unique.

The freshly painted 77W was rolled out the DFW hangar today 🙂

AA did a photoshoot on the apron with an impressive Texan sunset as a backdrop (I’ll post the link tomorrow when I get on a computer if someone else doesn’t beat me to it).

Just a heads up for all the LHR spotters on the forum, it’s scheduled to arrive at 08:40 as AA050 on Sunday 3rd March (let’s hope for some good weather).

Horrible, simply horrible. Its hard to believe they could do this to so recognizable a brand.

BTW, the main reason they entered bankruptcy was to ditch their pension liabilities.

Oh dear, I don’t like that American Eagle one…not sure it suits regional aircraft as well as bigger ones.

Perhaps it would look slightly better if they used Air Canada Express as an example, i.e. make more of an empahsis of the “Eagle” word like AC do with the “Express” word in the picture below, and then have the “American” wording and the new logo smaller above the windows…

That said though, isn’t AA suppose to be Chapter 11 bankrupcy…if so, where has the money come from to enable them to get a new livery design and to have their entire fleet painted?

The new look and re-branding is an important part of the restructuring. One of the reasons they entered Chapter 11 is because they fell behind the rest of the pack in terms of customer service and on-board experience and thus people stopped flying them.

The new look should help them differentiate themselves from the old American Airlines and hopefully win some flyers back.
When AA has just announced some of the largest orders in aviation history, I expect the re-branding is a relatively minor expense on the balance sheet and it’s not as if the fleet will be painted overnight. It could be 2016/2017 before the last of the aluminium is phased out.

The livery looks good on the American Eagles;

I first read and saw it on a different site, and I said “I like it, but not the tail”, and then I took a look at the photo in the first post on here, and I have to say that it does actually look really quite stunning…I love it!:)

That said though, isn’t AA suppose to be Chapter 11 bankrupcy…if so, where has the money come from to enable them to get a new livery design and to have their entire fleet painted?

I think it’s rather good, too.

That said, I liked the old livery. I boarded the tattiest looking B757 I’ve ever seen to fly London-Boston and had one of my very best flights.

Perhaps it has happy associations.

Looks like a paint job you’d see on a bus such as Greyhound …..way too busy

Just because they’ve announced this as their new livery doesn’t mean it’s the be all and end all. It could get quite a lot of tweaking over the next 5 years (just look at VS, how many different variations have they had until they arrived at today’s?)
I’ve read on other forums that people are ok with the fuselage but not with the tail. Yet I think it will look simply awesome when you have row upon row of red, white and blue striped tails sitting side-by-side at DFW, especially at night. If you don’t like it, I say give it time :p

I think it’s okay. I don’t think it will be a classic livery like the previous one was, but it’s decent considering they have to paint them now.
