I am over here on business and the museum is 5 mins away.
Anyone been there and is it worth a visit ?
Only open Wed onwards – so would be end of the week – if I can wrap everything up on time.

A reasonably good way to spend an hour. No cockpits open.
Everything was well looked after and clean.

I enjoyed my visit many years ago. I was impressed especially since it was new at the time. I assume it has only gotten better since then.
What it doesn’t have is a large outdoor collection of airframes.
Too bad they don’t have a CH-37 and other vintage types, but they do have the alreday mentioned V-22 test airframe.
If anyone is really into helicopters and in the Washington DC area, I might suggest looking atthe archives and model collection at the Helicopter Association International trade group. I saw it wand was astounded at the material they have.
Model fans will enjoy a huge collection of manufacturer desk models collected by their historian when he was in the USAF (He ended up with a large scale Rotodyne model from Westland for the asking) and a roomful of unmade plastic kits collected by a Bell test pilot. When donated, it had an example of every plastic helicopter kit ever released.

Thank you Chaps.
I had a look at the exhibit list and also the fuzzy google street view.
I will try and get by on Friday pm.

The highlight for me was the Kellett KD.1 but it does not appear on the current residents/exhibits list; guess it has moved on.
You would think that a helicopter museum would manage to spell “Brantly” correctly !!! Take a look at their exhibits list !!!

Yes
If you like helo’s you will like it. Some rare birds there with a mix of civil and military. A V-22 Osprey devlopment aircraft was the highlight for me, outside and in rough shape, but neat to walk inside it. Has some quirky 1950’s small helo’s so if you like those you will be impressed. 1.5 hours is likely plenty unless you a devout helo fan. Can sit in a few. Defintely do it if in the area.

Brian……………
It is probably 10 years since I was there (also in US on business !!), I would say worth a trip if you are that close. Spent a couple of hours there. I had some difficulty locating the place.
Good luck, enjoy……..!!!
