American re-introduce services to STN

American are going to introduce daily servcies from STN-JFK, operated with a 767-300. This will be supplemented in March next year with a second daily frequency. They are also moving RDU (Raleigh/Durham) and one of their DFW services from LGW to LHR. This will leave only a single daily DFW service from LGW for the airline.

I remember them well at Stansted back in the 90s. The BAA jumping through hoops for them, the havoc created for the long established airlines and handling agents with the gate/stand allocation for them (even upsetting the mighty EL AL at certain times) Despite all the fanfares, bells and whistles however within a few months they were gone and so were the jobs of a lot of great people. Don’t get me wrong I’m glad to see them back, lets hope that circumstances and the market have changed enough for them to stay a little longer this time.:)

I understand they are actively sourcing Gulfair and Luxair slots, not that that is a fait accompli however, as every man and his dog is trying to get them too…

With a lot of schedule alterations taking place to their existing LHR operation to accomodate the change.

Some good and some bad, but we won’t know for sure what they’re going to do for a few weeks. Looks like a loss of a LAX and a JFK frequency. At the same time the dayflight from BOS to LHR will be replaced by a dayflight from MIA instead.

Great news for those of us who enjoy quick weekend breaks in South Beach! 😀

The source I’ve seen suggests that AA has managed to get hold of additional slots at LHR (though not clear who they’ve bought them from) for the new services. That would suggest any other alterations are not directly related.
