Had a couple of interesting events here in Greeley yesterday, a Vietnam era Huey helicopter that was shot down in Vietnam has been restored to flying condition in Texas and made its way up here to Colorado to be displayed to 2000 cheering high schoolers at a local high school, and then flown to a local park so the rest of the town could admire it before departing for Southern Colorado and then loaded on a C-5 Galaxy at Peterson AFB and flown to the east coast so it can be flown around back east before being installed on ‘the Mall’ in Washington DC as part of the Smithsonian’s ‘Price of Freedom’ exhibit.

Oh… i thought from reading your post that it was retrieved from Vietnam before being restored, but it was just one of the many Vietnam-vets which continued service with the Army. There really are hundreds of those – back in the days when there still was a huge Huey depot at Brussels (to support the gazillions of UH-1H’s the USArmy had in Germany), i’ve seen plenty of them with patched-up bulletholes. Some of those (including the patched-up ones) now fly with the militaries of countries like Bosnia-Herzegovina (the Muslim-Croat part that is), Georgia and Lebanon.
65-10091 is now registred as N565TX from what i know.
