I believe that most in the UK are concessions, so the staff in the store are not actually employed directly by McDonalds but by ‘DogBurger Productions (Hicksville) Ltd’, or who ever runs the concession. It makes it easier for the chain to disassociate itself from that particular ‘restaurant’ if something goes wrong – food poisoning or a killing spree;), maybe. That was why burger stores suddenly appeared in petrol stations a few years ago and then just as suddenly disappeared when the new clients hung around outside smoking their fags (amongst other things), etc!

Maybe it seems like there should be more because you see so many of them – which surely means that there are numerous areas of the country in which they might be regarded as like an oasis in a desert…

The interesting thing about McDonnelds is that they do not serve the same fast food all over the world. Do addapt to local “cuisine” to make them more appeling to the local public. Interesting enough The Netherlands is one of the first countries they tried it in. A friend of me tolh me once that his uncle came up with the idea that you should addapt the general concept to meet local requerments. Not only in food but also in other stuff. In Holland we have relatively a lot of McDonnalds because they are manly small business instead of large once.
I live in the center of a city with 300.000 inhabitands and know of atleast 4 McDonnalds and I’m not looking for them!

They make excellent public toilets. Don’t go there for the eating, go there for the opposite.

In that case I retract my previous statement. If they have the sense to blow up a McDonalds they can’t be that lacking in taste.

BTW Flood grab your handbag too, a duel with handbags at 20 paces – Lethal 🙂 It’s just that their style of food does nothing for me. Don’t get me wrong, it will keep my hunger at bay for an hour or so but I still have to have a proper meal to feel as though I’ve been fed.

Shows the French are a little more lacking in taste than they would have us believe 🙂 even if there were none in the world that would still be about 30000 too many.

I won’t be that severe against fast food restaurants.
I guess that they play an interesting social role in the American society.
The hamburger in the US is sold (tell if I’m wrong) 99 cents.

It’s very cheap. Even very poor people can afford at least one decent warm meal a day. The quality of the meat is controlled.

I can see positive aspects in Mc Do’s contribution even if it’s not my favorite type of “cuisine”

Exactly cultural coloniisation. I would close all american fast food stores. They are against the old european culture in which food was more then just an hamburger on the way.
