AMS 16-10-06

Hi All,

Well… It’s 2:30am and I’m having a mad photo editing sesh, so here are a few shots from last week when myself and fellow forum member/photographer Mark Winterbourne took a trip over to AMS for the day. Enjoy!

Superb! Such a great mix of angles and a good variety of aircraft too. I love the KLM Cargo 747 shot and the 2 Privatair pics! Nice work! 🙂

Thanks again guys!

Rather extreme I do think going to another country to go to spot but hey if I was bit older and had the money I don’t think I would be doing different AMS is a great airport!

It isn’t just for the photgraphy, the beer’s better over there as well!

A really great selection Paul, especially like the KLM tail line-up. Definitely looking forward to visiting AMS for the first time in December.

Great stuff, I made my first visit to AMS the week before enroute to Kiev with Ukranian International Airlines.

Great fun spotting from the cabin during our ten minute taxi from the new runway to our gate.

Why is everyone so obsessed with the terrace? Sure it is nice, but it willl take you at least 2 hours to get to AMS (one hour for check-in, one to fly not counting to time required to even get to the airport). So how hard can it be to add 15 minutes by bus and another 15 minutes walk to get to the runway?

Settle down, Peter! I know how good the runways are (after you kindly took us round there) but I’ve also had many a happy day just pottering round the airport. Each to their own!

Fantastic shots as ever mate!

Just looking at AMS with Jet2 from LBA, fancy another day on the terrace! Very tempting indeed!

Do I fancy another day on the terrace? Tom, my friend, you do ask some silly questions!

Fantastic photos,by the way what size lens would you need from the terrace the aircraft look very close.I’m going to AMS in march & was wondering what would be better suited my 28-100mm or my 70-300mm lens?

Thanks for your comment, Gary. If possible take both lenses! Some of the movements are too far away for 100mm and some too near to get the the entire aircraft full frame at 75mm. Most of the above shots were taken with a Sigma 50-500 and I used it at the 500 end a good few times, but some of the nearer stuff warranted the use of the EF-S 18-55.

If you can only take one I’d say use the 75-300, but you’d certainly benefit from taking both. Hope that helps!
