AMS, 25/02/2007 – 12 pics (Libyan Antonov 124!!!)

Terrible weather was predicted for today. Normally sufficient to keep me well at home behind the internet with a cup of hot chocolat. Not today though.

As you may recall my lense was recently repaired. So I figured I might as well try out some bad light shots… and what better subject to be had then a LIBYAN ANTONOV 124! Only goes to show that everyone has their price.

Nice extras included a Santa Barbara 767 chartered by ArkeFly, the by now pretty regular Hibiscus (Still waiting for some bloody sun shots!) and the latest addition to the Martinair Cargo fleet, a B747-400BCF (no pic though). A Legacy bizjet finished it off.

By popular demand, here is a quick round-up of the current status of the spots around AMS.

Polderbaan: Fully accesible except for line-up point.
Zwanenburgbaan: Limited acces as always. Still merely a back-up.
Aalsmeerderbaan: Limited acces as always. Still merely a back-up.
Kaagbaan: Official spot remains open for now. Till when remains to be seen. Final approach spot likely to remain open.
Buitenveldertbaan: Spots still open, still facing sun (you’d think by now the sun would have moved a bit ;)). Now no other runways are in maintenance anymore, the Buitenveldertbaan has returned to spare-backup runway. Expect it to be used again some time this year… possibly… maybe.
Fokkerbaan: Always been limited access, still the same. Limited use too.
Observation terrace: Open as always. Still free of charge. The section between E and F pier that was closed for maintenance has been opened, or will open soon. Not verified myself as I refuse to pay parking money.

Ooooh, and as per new regulations/recommendations/whatever: all photos shot with a Canon 10D attached to a Sigma 70-200 2.8 HSM. Sorted in Paint Shop Pro browser, edited in Photoshop and made presentable with some heavy Neatimage-ing.

So, maybe it is time to add some photos to the ramblings:

Be it rain, hail, snow or sunshine, AMS is a great place for the aviation photographer. Great shots, I especially like the 1st Martinair and the An124 with that moisture haze over the top of the wing as the low pressure dissipates….great stuff.

All the best
