Had a weekend in AMS courtsey of daily Mail/BMI free flights.
Departed in A321 G-MIDH first flight of the day out of T1 at LHR with 40 odd on board. Took off from 27L at 0636. A quick clime to FL230 clear until the other side of London, then cloud all the way in.
Landed at AMS on the new runway 36l at 0816. I am sure that runway is in Belgium as its a very long taxi! Great terminal in comparison to LHR. Lots of glass, great viewing airside. Parked at stand D18 on the right ride of the central short hall pier.
Made my way to the great observation deck(BAA please come and visit and take notes!) for a great day of spotting.

The large amount of Turkish flights were due to Dutch half term holidays and school exchange trips.
Stayed on the deck until it got dark at 1900. Then had a good meal in the resturant next to the deck, not bak value. Then of to the Etap hotel on the permiter. Cheap and clean for 55euros, all that was needed.
Up on the terrace 7 on Sunday morning, still dark but good night spotting! The day produced a few gems..

back on G-MIDH again, almost full at 21:46 arriving back at LHR on 09L at 21:35.
A good weekend, easy hassle free spotting and 217 new numbers in the book. Just need another free flight offer now!

I had one of those Daily Mail tokens as well, but decided not to use it. There where to many terms and conditions. They deciding the day and time of departure. Not quite convenient for me. In the end I ended up cheaper anway by booking my own flight! And that was booked at BMI!
Silly isn’t it, if you book a flight normally with BMI then you are cheaper of then when you have a token for a BMI flight!
Sorry I could not join you robbelc, there was a strike at the local train and bus company so I could not come. They only ever strike when you want to use it. I am already betting with some people that the NS and/or Eurostar won’t be running the 23th when I want to visit LHR.
Do you know what the Varig 737 was doing over here? And which airline flew RA-85669 (tu-154)?
With your next free flight I can perhaps join you! Visit the spots nearer to the runway!

Yeah, there is a long haul one going around now, but that is going to have even more strings attached, probably entails using a boat! 😀

It took me long enough to sort out the flights, was going to go in August. The problem seemed to be late flights back on Sunday’s as they are always near full. Just need them to include Frankfurt next time!

Glad to see you had a nice trip Rob. I got one of those Daily Mail free flight things but couldn’t really get a hotel to work, plus all the dates and times were decided by them (Well, partially) so decided to give up. I’ll take a trip out there in the Spring I think, far too many flights booked this year already!
