Out on my early delivery round yesterday 07:30ish i saw a AN124 climbing out of East Midlands and a Tristar on approach. The 124 looked like a Volga ac and the Tristar was i think all over white, May of had blue line down it ? I Know the RAF now have a low vis scheme applied but not sure was RAF.
Just wondered though anyone know what the purpose of the 124 visit was ?
And the Tristar identity ? purpose of visit ?
thanks ….

UPS have a 767-300PF inbound every weekday evening at around 20:30 (ish) from the US – it goes on to Cologne later the same evening. On a Monday, the aircraft that arrives Sunday evening day-sits and leaves at 22:30-ish. UPS also have a Danish registered 757-200F (Star Air) each weekday evening, arriving sometime around 21:00. There also used to be a Danish registered 727 but that stopped a while ago. There might be other a/c supporting the UPS operation (never quite sure) but if so they’re not painted in UPS colours.

PS: “Now” is relative – UPS has been in EMA for many years, firstly with DC-8s

And as for the AN-225, it is also approved for N-EMA but has not visited yet. When it diverted into PIK a while back, only reason it didn’t come to N-EMA (which was filed #1 diversion) was because crew requested PIK as they were more familiar with that airport.

Yep I was on that night and we had to divert from SNN as they banned the aircraft whilst enroute!!! headless chicken state Alpha for 10 mins trying to find airport that would accept such a beasty…. good old PIK came up trumps as they had better WX forecast and crew accepted on this basis but EMA were on the case at such short notice to accept the beast!!

124’s deffo fairly rare in EMA even rarer for 225!! only allowed into PIK, MAN as well STN banned for being too big !
Nope. An-124s pretty regular in N-EMA – recent times there’s been two or three a week, some weeks. Another one in tonight after the visit of the one mentioned above earlier this week. Recent times, I’d be willing to suggest N-EMA has had more AN-124 movements than any other airport in the UK. My understanding many recent visits have been bringing in priority shipments of wide-screen TVs for the Christmas market, although some have been taking the usual suspects to Toulouse!

TriStar (back to original question!) was RAF – usually one every month or two on trooping flights. FWIW, even though trooping they always use the DHL ramp.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but a 747 once had 1000 odd pax packed into it on a humanitarian mission. I think the absolute record is for 1,300+ on a Lockheed Galaxy of the USAF for much the same reason as the 747
No probs mate … I don know the correct date as to when the respective lifts occured, …. I’ll just take that as a courtesy reply to my bursing the bubble that u had in ur signature! 😉

I usually get to see an An-124 operating out of East Midlands around once or twice a month. A magnificent spectacle!

for heavy Freights, what else
now no one can deny that Airbus was not impressed with An-124, after all it had lifted world record number of pasengers (refugees) on a UN mission, like 800+ ….
