Being unable to attend Legends this year, and being devoid of any opportunity to get anywhere near an aeroplane for several weeks, the withdrawal symptoms got the better of me and I found myself at Cosford this Sunday. Even on a fourth visit I still can’t say that the new building has grown on me any more than previously. The place seemed quieter today than the last three visits, wonder whether visitor numbers are beginning to fall as the ‘novelty’ wears off…..
Anyway, on with the photos. Nothing spectacular as usual but might offer a flavour of the place to anyone who hasn’t yet been.
We’ll start with the Neptune.
Took this next one on completely the wrong setting but like the way it worked out. It’s the Fairey Delta.
Next up is the starboard outer Griffon of the Lincoln.
The Hornisse looks somehow deadly whichever angle it is viewed from.
A bit of a question for the Hawker experts out there. What is this device hanging from the lower starboard wing of the Afghan Hind? It is outboard of the bomb shackles and is only present on the starboard wing.
This is on the port side of the Danish Catalina. Presume it means something along the lines of everywhere anytime?
Just like the curves in the canopy.
This would have been a fearsome sight to see directed towards your warship. The Yokosuka Okha.
The Bristol 188 and one for Shuttleworth’s blingers?
On to the Cold War exhibition and a shot of (some) of the Vulcan.
Two of the Lightning.

The Dakota does look good even though it is hung.
I do like the use of white mannequins rather than painted figures and find this little vignette very striking.
Next up are four of the quotes used to illustrate a Europe divided by the Cold War.

Its actually the internal structure of one of Baders tin legs. The outer skin and foot are in the resto shop. They used the Hind to make an emergency drop of one in Liverpool in the 40’s I believe.
😉
That Cherry Blossom……. sends shivers up my spine every time i see it. You and I must have seen it hundreds of times….. don’t know about you but it still scares me! 😮

Great pictures Kev, they are my sort of view of things as well, pity you were’nt at Leg-ends, I wanted to buy you a pint, trouble is the crap Worthington at £3:00 a pint had sold out by lunchtime, remember those halcyon days at Conningsby when they had Batemans on tap…….

Ubicumque Quandocumque = Anywhere, Anytime
It’s a Lightning – NOT Thunderbird chuffin 1…….

No, I didn’t go to Legends either….
Cracking photos Kev – like them all the more for the fact they’re not the usual “three quarters front” view that I all too often continue to take when digital would allow me to try a the more “arty” approach (at nil cost if the end result is cr@p).
No, I didn’t get to Legends either – instead I went to see some (ageing) rockers at Twickenham – I can hear the roar of massed merlins at Legends every year, but it’s possibly the last time I’ll see Genesis on tour in the UK.
Was it worth missing Legends for..well, lets just say that even though there were 50,000 people there there were no windbreaks, no tents, no empty chairs chained to fences, and definitely no step ladders to get in the way….:D (Traffic on the way out was still cr@p though! 90 mins to do a mile and a half 😡 )

It’s a flare holder, for night landings.

Stonking pics Kev, a day well spent.
You are right about the Latin – roughly speaking it translates to ‘Wherever, whenever’

There might well be a Blue Streak and to be perfectly honest I seriously doubt that I could tell the difference anyway.

Looked like a Thor to me, the paint job is certainly Thor(ish)…
…but I’d been told there was a Blue Streak there.
Probably duff information.

I believe it’s a Thor but I stand ready to be corrected.

That ballistic missile in the Lightning shot…..Thor or Blue Streak?

A few from Hangar 1.

It’s nice to see the Anson reunited with its wings, just such a shame to see it so crammed in. I presume the space left around the Comet is for any reunions or gatherings which are sometimes held in Hangar 1.
Now a few from outside. It’s nice to see the Britannia receiving so much attention. Does it really matter what colour scheme she is painted in as long as she is receiving some much needed TLC?

And one final shot. Just because I liked it.
A poor substitute for Legends I know, but it passed a pleasant couple of hours away.
