An argument

In another post Wombat suggested we need an argumentative err…. personality to get things rolling again. So, I was wondering if anyone remembers this…

“Good evening.”

“Good evening sir, may I be of assistance?”

“Yes, I’ve come for an argument.”

“Certainly sir. Would you like the five minute argument or the full half-hour?”

Well, it went something like that. Anybody got any ideas?

RE: An argument

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-10-02 AT 10:25 AM (GMT)]Hey Wombat ! you wont get much of an argument about the cricket ‘cos most of us poms think the same as you do about them…

New Zealand?? is that that island thingy near that aussie thingy? I always thought that was the Great barrier reef.(have they got an army?)

The Pope cant be a catholic ‘cos he’s not Irish

Next time try diet Coke, less sugar and that can play havoc with your catalyctic converter

“…probably wouldn’t know what to do with Alaska anyway”
but does the US know what to do with it?

So ! the secrets out, the Japanese did use Spitfires in WW2

out for a duck!(for those who dont know “a duck” is slang for the number of runs an English cricketer generally scores)

RE: An argument

You want a good argument.

Ok,

I think that Cyprus may not join the EU.
You may ask yourself Cyprus way Cyprus, you have an hole scale of problems in other soon to be EU contries and Cyprus is doing a fine job in all aspects, infact there are two contries fully ready to join and have their affairs in order, which are Cyprus and Malta. Their legislation is in line with the EU, the financial affairs are in order, they can join the Euro if they want and the third thing I forgot.

BUT
I have tree arguments why they shouldnot join.

1. European Union it self and it’s foundations
2. Turkey – Greece
3. Cyprus it self

1. European Union it self and it’s foundations
When the EU or EEU, was founded after WWII they tought it was the best way to united Europe and deminsh the power of Germany, in order to prevent war in the future. So it was to create a prosporuse, stable Europe for its citicenz.
That said, why get a state in the European Union which is devided in two (only one part is regioniseted by the world, which is the Greek Cypriods). It is a potential conflict and we need to do something about and we can’t igonore.

2. Turkey – Greece
Turkey and Greece might be willing to resolf the question at hend because Turkey wants also to join the EU and and therefore a fast intressed to resolve the issue, and so has Greece because they want Cyprus to join.

3. Cyprus it self
Cyprus is a country divided in two, and the main stay of the economy is tourism. Tourist in general don’t like conflics and therefore Cyprus might get a boom in it’s tourism industry if the problem is resolved, not to mention all the families and all the personal soffering which is going on at the moment.

Just soem thoughts about the issue.

greetings,

jw

btw no flame war please, just valid arguments

RE: An argument

I think perhaps one of us should take up the cudgels – but we need an opponent. That means we need two twits to start insulting each other over a few weeks whilst the rest of us sit back and laugh at them.
We would also need controversial topics over which to argue. Suggested subjects over which a fight could be started:

The Cricket (always good with the poms coming out to Oz to get the bejeesus belted out of them again. Wish they would send out a team of cricketers instead of a team of croquet-ers)
Of little interest to our American and European friends, however.

Should the United States give Alaska back to the Soviet Union? Bit difficult, as the S.U. packed up its kit and went home years ago. Probably wouldn’t know what to do with Alaska anyway.

Should New Zealand invade the Aleutians? Nah, probably not – they probably wouldn’t know where they hell they were.

Is the pope really a Catholic? Non-Catholics only need respond.

Should Avro re-introduce the 504?

Rolls Royce Merlins were recycled Nissans.

Was Elvis homosexual?

Do things really go better with Coke? Didn’t do a damned thing for my car when I tried it.

And so on…there must be other equally dubious subjects out there, and volunteers are now being called for a good old fashioned stoush. If it can be international, so much the better.

Regards

Wombat

” I’m not going to argue because you haven’t paid!”

Sorry, this room is for abuse, arguments are down the hall and to the right.

RE: An argument

We could always get a good one going on the EU. Geforce is always ready to defend the European Superstate. Of course the last politician who tried to united Europe under one flag was a meglomanic Austrian Corporal with a strange taste in facial hair, and an equally strange taste in friends! I tend to share Capt Mainwarings view, or perhaps Cpl Jones’s.
