AN/GPS-10 Cobra Talon Radar

Hi Guys,

Not sure if this is the correct place to be posting this but I was just wondering if anyone might be able to give me a heads up on somewhere I might be able to find more information about the Cobra Talon radar system used by the US to monitor Soviet ballistic missile testing.

I know this was a distributed OTOH Radar operated from 1971 onwards but cant seem to find any details about it. I’ve found a few references to its various locations and one photo of a large Dish ( http://www.panoramio.com/photo/19420402 ) but nothing that details the scope and length of time that the system was in service for.

In order to perform its function it must have had a relatively high resolution and I know it was also used to provide some of the Tracking information for the investigation of KAL007 when it was downed in 1983 (It makes sense that this system would be focused on areas around the sea of Okhotsk). Apart from that there doesnt seem to be much concrete information on what was obviously a major undertaking at the time.

Any pointers/suggestions you might have would be really appreciated.
