Its not that often something sensible comes off airliners.net let alone something truly interesting. However this study of European 777 operations certainly contradicts that traditional impression!
Even if the research is far from a conclusive breakdown of the overall operation, or details even anywhere near all the factors that influence the operation, its probably still the most detailed comparison of airlines that I have ever seen written down in this way:
