Does anyone know the current state of the AN2’s at Chester, or ex Air Foyle one stored at Popham? Does anyone have any recent photos of them? Do the owners plan to use them in any way, or have thy been ‘abandoned’?

Bill Leary of the An2 Club at Popham will be visiting the Oxfordshire Aviation Group in Didcot next Monday(11th Feb)
with his presentation on operating the worlds largest single engined biplane.

Yup, missed that one hiding in the hangar. Only seven to my eyes and something that looks like a helicopter.:)
There are eight in that line, three facing backwards and five forward.:)

Does anyone have any more information on the AN2’s? How did they come to be here? Were the flown in, or brought in by land? Does anyone know the owners intentions for the aircraft? I assume that they belong to Hawarden Air Services… Can anyone confirm this?

Newark’s former loanee – December 2003, being prepared for its trip to the USA.

Chester AN2’s
Here’s a couple I took late in 2006, they are all packed in like sardines, but still make an impressive sight.

There was also the AN2 at Newark for a short time… What happened to her?
Sold on by its owner in late 2003; dismantled and shipped out to the USA by container in early 2004. I understood that this was due to UK Permit problems!
I’ve seen pictures of the hangared ones at Hawarden – taken at the same time as Newark’s MiGs were taken out of there on loan. Not sure who took the pictures though!:(

There was a second one there briefly, must be 18 months 2 years ago now you come to mention it.
It didn’t stay long and I haven’t seen any sign of it on any recent visits. I don’t think it’s hiding, there aren’t many hiding places at Popham!
Sorry I can’t be more help, why not try the guy on the website or PPrune forum, he might know.

Carpetbagger… I think that there are 2 AN2’s at Popham… There is the AN2 Clubs HA-MKF which is flying, but there is also HA-MKE which is sick! And minus her wings and tail! Thats the one I was thinking about!!!!

I see the Popham one twice a day on my way to work and back (OK, once in the winter, it’s dark when I go home:) ).
Although it doesn’t move that often (I’ve yet to see it in the air) it was definitely out and about last year a few times. Although the last time I saw it up close there was the beginnings of a green tinge on the upper surfaces they were still collecting to keep it flying and allowing people on so I very much doubt it’s been abandoned.
Further investigation sees a guy monikered as ‘Billredshoes’ on the PRune forum who runs it, take a look here http://www.an2club.info/
