Hello,
G-ALFA was out and about, enjoying the blue sky and fluffy white cloud, manouvering over E. Lincs this morning….
I enjoyed it too….merely watching from below…and then from the end of its strip on landing… 🙂

Was G-AMMS the one that the comedian Jimmy Edwards used to own? I seem to rememeber seeing it at Squires Gate (Blackpool) in the late 50s. And G-ALFA is for sale on www.thehangar.co.uk
Yes, you’re right G-AMMS was owned by Jimmy Edwards. She is now based at Eggesford in Devon (having first flown after a lengthy rebuild last summer), but is currently on loan to a person at Leicester. I’ve been lucky enough to have flown in her on a number of occasions and it must be one of the more famous Austers built. Everywhere it goes, people remember it as the example that was flown at the Farnborough Airshows in 1950 and 51.
This photo is very interesting as it shows a scheme that we havent seen before. Of particular interest is the top most part of the fin which appears to be white or grey. Different to say the least.

I agree, I guess that most of them were taken at the airshows that they use to have there. I went to one in either 1960 or 1961 just as the ‘R’ registrations were coming out as there was Tri-Pacer (G-ARAG) and a Super Cub (G-ARAZ) there and it was the first time I had seen one.
What is also interesting about these photos are the interesting aircrat in the background, such as the Tri-Pacers, Gemini, etc.
That was where I has my first ever flight, in a Piper Carribean (Tri-Pacer variant)

Nice to see the three shots of Kidlington. They brought back some happy memories.

Hello Glyn,
Thank you for posting up the photos.
I have flown in G-AHSO out of Skeggy. On a quiet pleasure flight day towards the end of the operation of Skegness Aerodrome I arranged for an AHSO trip to Sturgate…and had a few other flights around the general area too. Had the Skeggy aerodrome stayed open the next year I had an idea to take the Auster on a few more outings..sadly this was to remain only a pipe dream of mine.. 🙁 .
I summise G-AHSO is still just up the road from here…so local but I don’t know…but it is shown as not a flyer.
G-ALFA is just up the road from here…in the opposite direction…and does sometimes appear over Spilsby here.
Clive.
I have posted this 1992 photo before… but I post it again.. 😉

Glyn,
What is quite amazing is that these all have one thing in common – they are all still surviving and airworthy, believe.
Not quite, unfortunately G-AGXP was destroyed in a hangar fire at Ipswich in the 1970’s.

Very nice – for pure aesthetics you can’t beat an Auster!
