Reading the thread about the malta Dragonfly, reminded me of the dragonfly that sat in a Manchester Yard at Ancoats some thirty years ago. I understand it belonged to sa singer called Peter Noone who intended to fly it, does anyone know what became of it?

Interestingly WG751 had a very modified front-end as shown in my very poor quality picture taken at Ancoats in about 1970.(slide film was expensive in those far-off days so rarely was more than one photo taken of each aircraft!)It must have needed a fair bit of grafting to get the original nose back on during the restoration.

He of Herman and the Hermits?
No, surely it was Hermann & the Germans, the ones who had the hit with ‘Fraulein Braun du hast ein schone tochter’ !
p.s. sorry for the inaccurate German but I had to make it scan!

Ancoats Dragonfly
Mention is made of Dragonfly HR.3 WG751 in Wrecks & Relics Five and Six. It was located in Noone Brothers Motor Engineering yard. It was noted as “ex Wisbech”. It had moved on by May 77. No destination reported. Photo in W&R 6.
Wonder if that helps?
Well, if it was WG751, then it is now safely in the hands of the World Naval Base Museum at Chatham, Kent
See http://www.thedockyard.co.uk/The_Trust/Volunteering/volunteering.html – the first picture shows WG751 being restored and refurbished and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File Dragonfly-wg751.jpg which shows that it has been repainted as “GJ/710” from its days with 705 NAS at Gosport in 1953.
An alternative, clearer picture can be see at http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1253954/

Wish you’d told me you were looking at Westlands and not D.H. Would have saved me a lot of time! 😮

W & R would probably be the best bet for the definative answer.

Production list here, no obvious candidates for your suspect in the ’70’s or ’80’s.

Presumably. The ‘sa’ confused me in the first post as I didn’t know of any South African connection. There isn’t. Reference to the passing of Davy Jones in the link. No reference to any aeronautical connections or interest.
