…and a big-up for Duxford

The French group also decided they wanted to have a look at Duxford. Being in the country for only one day this did not seem possible to start with, but a change in timings meant it could happen.

I called Linda Mason at Duxford at 9am on Thursday and told her I would like passes and access for 18 people just after lunch. I had never met her before and this was totally out of the blue.

We arrived at just before 12:30 and found that not only had we passes to get in but each of the French people had a visitor pack.

The French were suitably impressed. The unplanned (although I did claim otherwise) flight of Spitfire PV202 was an added bonus that was much appreciated.

I also think I may have bumped into Ashley but she is not pressing charges.

Seriously, thanks to Duxford for their timely effort. The day worked out fine.

Oh God, you didn’t try to speak French again, did you Melv? A few glasses of Champagne and Melvyn sounds just like Maurice Chevalier.

I didn’t know Frenglish was a language.

There was one moment when I was explaining that the Avro Triplane and boxkire were replica but the Deperdussin, Bleriot and Blackburn were original and then I realised I was speaking in French.

it was like those moments in Road Runner cartoons where the Coyote runs over the cliff and keeps going until he realises he is over a canyon. The first half of what I said was OK then I thought about it and it became a trainwreck!

Thank ‘eavens, for leeetle guuuuuurls, for leeeetle guuuuuurls, get beeeeger every day . . . .
