Item is now described as being from a Tempest on e-Bay. I
The fisherman doesn’t get his bonus, no bids on this item. Bruce gets a credit mention. š

The hub was trawled up off of the coast in east sussex – just off of a place called peacehaven – which is between brighton and newhaven – near a place called portobello – quite near the sewage outlet pipe (apparently according to the fisherment, there is an unidentified aircraft wreck there which has been dived on quite a lot – from information provided on a previous thread – ie bolt counting – it would appear that it was originally attached to a centaurus radial.
with regard to other artefacts being dredged up – quite right – number of aircraft engines have been found – have seen a pratt and whiitney locally which some one (not me) id as coming out of a corsair – no idea how that was worked out.
have spoken with fisherman finder recokons that its unlikely to have come all the way down from portland – so unlikely to have come off of the Bristol freighter – however nothings impossible.

Item is now described as being from a Tempest on e-Bay. It was trawled up in the Newhaven area evidently. Lots of this stuff comes out of the sea on a regular basis along the South Coast and speculation as to specific history of aeroplane concerned is usually futile. Andy Saunders

Just speculating but, couldn’t the prop be from Bristol Freighter G-AIFF?
Care to supply any more details.
Excellent picture; if it had wooden blades Iād say that was bang-on.
Where was it taken?

The Farman reduction gear made me think Bristol too.
The ratio looks more like Centaurus than Hercules (but I could be wrong).
Centaurus and four bladed prop…possibly Tempest II, Buckingham, Buckmaster or Brigand. Did any of these have wooden props?

No, it`s from a radial engine, looks like a Bristol, and most likely a Hercules or Centaurus. I have seen some Halifaxes with 4 blade Rotol props on Merlins, but not sure if it was done with the Hercules version.
I would be interested to know what it is off, as a 4 blade Rotol hub on a radial engine is quite a rarity, whereas the same on a Spitfire isnt!
Incidentally, I`m talking a rarity in terms of WW2 and wooden blades, Rotol mass produced these for Bristol engines post-war, mostly with alloy blades.
