Hey…don’t mean to stir old arguments (okay yes I do) but I couldn’t resist when I read this…according to Jane’s Defence Weekly, September 20th, a Pakistani Air Force jet has crashed. What happened to the infallible super weapons?

RE: Another Crash
Its wrong of me to say this, and I may be classed as prejudiced as a result, but I wouldn’t feel at all comfortable flying on a Russian aircraft and would actively try and not to fly with them.
Maybe its media-hype thats made me think like this, but I have to admit that I am, probably unecessarily, weary of them.

RE: Another Crash
Have you seen any major airline operating Il, TU or Yak??? Russians no doubt have a big question mark over there civil aviation industry. Russian aircrafts are made with full heart by Russia. The Russian civil aviation industry is always low on funds. Also now they are offering there aircrafts with western engines and avionics so the problem causing aircrafst are the older ones.

RE: Another Crash
sorry…
I mean there are more boeing/airbus aircraft in the world compared to those made by the Russians.

RE: Another Crash
I questioned Russian aircraft a few months back. To me, it seems Russian aircraft: Yakolev, Tupolev, Iluyshin etc crash more frequently than those by the more well known such as Boeing and Airbus. When you think about it, there is definitely more Airbus and boeing aircraft in the world than there are those made by Airbus. So, what is the problem?
Are Russian aircraft not made as well as they should be?
Are they not maintained and kept safe?
Are pilots insufficiently trained?
Surely, it’s one of the three. It’s not good to see that changes aren’t being made. Are these frequent crashes actually being investigated by the aircraft manufacturers?

RE: Another Crash
The curious thing is that this company was one of the most reputed one in terms of maintenance and safety.

RE: Another Crash
yes sad news…..i again repeat according to me there is nothing wrong with Russian a/c…..MAINTANENCE is the factor. Specially these small airlines which take cheap companies for there aircrafts as cost saving measures.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-07-02 AT 01:50 PM (GMT)]Sad news, yet another Russian aircraft crash and yet more reason for people to question the safety of their aircraft.Early speculation on explanations on the crash are down to maintenance or pilot error which seems to be all to common in Russia and the former Soviet tates.
My thoughts are with the friends and families of those who have died. This is the first crash of the IL-86 in its 22 year history.RIP.

RE: Another Crash
No cargo, it was an IL-86 on a positioning flight to Saint Petersburg with only 16 crew on board. Aviation is getting really crazy. How can an empty four engines IL-86 in fine weather colapse like that?. I can´t understand it.
