It has been forty years since I was last in Washington and Silver Hill.
Last week I routed through Dulles on return from the west coast and spent a couple of days at both the Udvar-Hazy and the Air And Space Museum on the Mall.
Photography is not easy, so I opted for using Tv mode with single point focusing at 1/5th of a second..hand held. You really need a tripod but I am reasonably pleased with the results but some are enevitably a little soft.
I will post in batches of 20 in no particular order over the next few days. There should be something for everybody here.

Great pics thanks!
Love the look of that weatherbeat P38 in particular.
So many other rarities like the P61, Ar234, He219, I MUST get there

Ah, so it’s a China theatre scheme? Thanks.
Far be it for me to want to join the colour police but something looks slightly odd about the Hurricane camouflage colours. Is it in original paint or is it a restoration scheme?

Dave, the P-40 is in the scheme of Don Lopez, a 23rd FG Ace who was later Deputy Director of the Museum.

Thanks for going the extra mile to reload these Peter, it’s much appreciated.
Is that a genuine No. 94 Squadron ‘Hat In The Rin’ Nieuport? If it is, who’s aircraft was it, Rickenbackers?
A lot of those aircraft are unknown to me but it’s a great collection. What is the P-40 with desert colours and a shark’s mouth representing, is this an Italy theatre scheme perhaps?

Moved images. I could do without this.:apologetic:
I had overloaded one of the ‘Photobucket’ albums with my mass upload of the Smithsonian images. This locked the system solid and prevented further uploading or manipulating of images. Following instructions I generated a new album and transferred the Smithsonian images over. Problem fixed… I thought.
The result is it has broken the link, as we can see.
I will reload them ASAP.

Why can I not see any of the photos? I can see just the Photobucket message that they have been moved or deleted. 🙁
Mine have gone as well.

It’s quite sobering that there’s an F-35 in a museum already………..
It’s only when you see it next to the A6 and F14 you realise how big the F35 is!
Fabulous museum – I’ll have to go back now Discovery is there, it was Enterprise when I visited….

Too bad that A-6E Intruder is incomplete. Where’s the FLIR turret?* 😀
I see by the bolted-down fuselage speed-brakes it is an A-6A upgraded to A-6E configuration.
*It should have one of these installed:

Blimey, I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve said “they have one of those?” or “What the flip is that?”
It must have been quite a visit, thank you for sharing it!

I am wondering…is there a bit of a shifting of policy at NASM now regarding the restoration of airframes and keeping things in original camo? I think it is great to for example see the 163, even in it’s rough shape with original markings, etc. Or is this just a temporary display till it is on the resto schedule.

That is a spectacular “finish” on that T33!

A marvelous collection indeed and great photos thereof for those of us who will never be able to get there in person. I’m not sure if I blinked and missed it, but where is the Spitfire? Saw the Hurricane a few times but no Spitty!! Surely they’re not biased to the Mustang……..are they.:highly_amused:
The Spitfire comes in Part Two…NASM at th Mall in central Washinton.

That would be in the National Mall Building of the NASM not in the Udvar-Hazy Center. It’s a Mk 7.
