I have a nice easy to use Kodak CX4300 camera which I use in conjunction with a 128mb MMC removable card. I have the Kodak easyshare software that allows me to transfer pictures to my PC but what I would occasionally like to be able to do is to transfer an old picture back from my PC to the card. Can I do this without buying extra equipment? Is it just a case of downloading a freeware program?

Nah – they just complained about the cost of the cards so an I.T. wonk had to go out and train the plebs how to retrieve images from the net and emails instead. Cheaper but now we get low-res images trying to spread themselves wide due to the endemic “Oh – that’ll do!” mentality!

Yes wys you can get a PCMCIA card tray if you have a laptop or a USB multicard tray if you use a desktop.
Both are quite cheap.

Ah – and not the ‘holiday’ snaps like everyone else, then!;)
Sorry – when we first got digital cameras some bright spark suggested transporting images between offices using the Compactflash cards… Then the word went around that we should use the cards whilst other images were being transported… Then finally it was totally outlawed because of the number of cards it screwed up!

Had a go at using windows explorer and it worked a treat. I have only tried transferring uneditted pictures and will leave it that way! The reason I’m having to do this is a long story, suffice it to say that it is something to do with my technophobe wife being a pain in the butt!

It might come up with the name Kodak when the card is in – but I would be wary about doing much with transferring back to the card – it could be that the camera won’t read it (if that is your plan), especially if you have worked on it, and could screw the card up. Why would you want to do that anyway – except for transport?
Moral of this story?
Get a spare card – soon!

You might be able to do it by not using the software. My camera connects via a USB port. I can either use the Olympus software and download the pictures, or access them directly by opening up the camera in Windows Explorer (it shows as a removable disk drive). You might be able to go that route and copy an image back to the camera.
