It was raining when I left home and it was raining when I returned but hot, humid and the sun was shining at Duxford. The Catalina departed first thing and an old resident from Hanger 4 was winched off the back of a trailer and is now at home in Hanger 3. ‘Old Crow’ is on the mend and could be flying soon and Richard Grace took the family runabout for a spin in the afternoon for a bit of a practice throw about for Sunday.

The Cat’ has got to be one of the most beautiful planes ever made, but beautiful in a strange way, can’t quite but my finger on it.
Whats happening with the CASA 2.111/Heinkel 111, is it being restored to flying or static condition?
I presume they’ll be fitting with merlins if it is being restored.
The ‘He 111’ is going to be static only i’m afraid. Any ideas of her taking to the skies again disappeared when Mark Hanna was killed, as it was he and the OFMC who acquired and arranged her delivery under an HC-53.. she was then sold onto to the IWM.

Can anybody confirm the history and identity of the Hind (?) fuselage. Also what are the long term plans.

The Catalina must be one of the busiest warbirds in the UK. I would say on most thursdays / fridays she departs away for the weekend.. returning either on the following sunday or monday!

I once toured that Cat at Koksijde when I was still with the Fouga solo display. Loved it! One of a small list of birds I will never get tired of seeing in the air!

I prefer the blue versions 🙂
