Sad news or fake?
Atlantic AL’s L-188CF Electra freighter G-FIZU (cn 2014) is reported to left Coventry via Reykjavik last week. It should be exported to Conair Aviation, Abbotsford/Canada like others in 2010.
Anyone who can confirm this?
If this is real, only two Electra’s remains in service for Atlantic Airlines:
G-LOFE and G-LOFC.

richellis. You can get fairly close …. all the above photos were taken from the Airbase area …. but on the day the Nimrod arrived so it was a little more open !!
If you do a search for ‘Airbase at Coventry’ on this forum you could come up with more photos of the actual Airbase aircraft.
Happy to help !

Last time I looked there were big chunks of an Electra over on the dump. There’s also one behind the Airbase hangar missing a few pieces that was being used by a bunch of “airsoft” enthusiasts last weekend.

How did you get that from what I just said? :confused::rolleyes:

Are you saying that the aircrew are forced to fly them ? Having watched the series I really do not think they are stupid and harbour a death wish.

I think you’ve gotten your Electras a little mixed up. The former Reeve Illusion a/c was sold to Buffalo Airways in Yellowknife, Canada (the airline of “Ice Pilots NWT” fame). The former Atlantic a/c that had the fuel tank incident has been patched up and has flown out to Conair at Abbotsford, Canada. The other former Reeve Aleutian Electra is also due to go to Buffalo at Yellowknife once it’s patched up and the engines from the first Reeve a/c have been freighted back from Canada to the UK (it’s systems have been powered on fairly recently using a genny and the control surfaces are being worked on).

Jesus :eek::eek:
I wouldnt want to fly either of those aircraft 😮 especially the one thats waiting to go back 😮
Fair play to those pilots 🙂 Thanks for clearing that up!
Cheers

Thank you Andy for your interesting infos, but again something was “mixed up”. The fuel tank incident happened on 28 Jan 2010, the a/c was G-LOFB (cn 1131), it was still stored in CVT in Oct 2010, not flown out to Conair! Have a look at the following pic (scroll down) without props, an engine and backdoor.

The other former Reeve-Electra, stored at CVT, please look here:
http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?t=36444&page=42
Pics taken in May 2010, very poor condition! This a/c should ever fly again?
Here the situation in these days, please correct me if I’m wrong:
Electra movements from Coventry in 2010/2011
To Conair :
c/n 1143 (G-LOFD Atlantic AL) exported 16 March 2010, now C-FYYJ;
c/n 1138 (G-FIJR Atlantic AL) exported 03 Nov 2010, now C-GYCG;
c/n 2014 (G-FIZU Atlantic AL) exported/left CVT 1 Feb 2011;
To Buffalo AW:
c/n 2010 (N2RK Reeve Illusion) exported 05 Aug 2010, now C-FIJX;
Electra’s stored at Coventry/wrecks
c/n 1116 Ex-Fred Olsen LN-FOL (DHL colours) wreck (firefighter-trainer);
c/n 1129 Atlantic G-FIJV parted out/spares;
c/n 1131 Atlantic G-LOFB parted out;
c/n 1140 Ex-Reeve N4HG parted out
Electra’s in service for Atlantic AL
c/n 1100 G-LOFC
c/n 1144 G-LOFE

Sometime towards summer last year, one of atlantic’s electras had been sold – but due to an unfortunate defuelling accident and an impolded fuel tank – the better looking of the reeve electras replaced it – the other one is now sat on atlantics ramp looking ratherforlorn.
Having been inside her – id say she wont be flying again…

Afirm – no Canadian reg yet, but the rumour was that the next one to go (i.e. this one) would become a parts-ship after it arrived in Canada. Still to go is the other Reeve Electra (to join its fellow ex-Reeve a/c at Buffalo at Yellowknife sometime soon), leaving as you say just two!

For a long time at coventry there were two reeve electras – aelutian and illusion. which have been sat there for as long as I can remember!

:mad:Another classic aircraft gone from the uk.
Does anyone have any recent pics on these aircraft ??
Im after G-LOFA which ended on the dump but i didnt see it when i went to Coventry in 2003/4.
What is lying around at Coventry awaiting the axe etc.:mad:
I’ve got some pics somewhere.
Very little awaiting the “axe” – the museum have lent a F105 cockpit to the fire department for training as its their spare… Reliably informed by the fire crews that its in no danger – They use it for EVAC training

If any one you on here watch the Show Ice Pilots there is an Episode in the lastest series which Features Buffalo Airways Owner Joe Mcbryan and his Son at the Coventry Fly in last year. I beleive it covers the Negotiations with Atlantic over the Electras! He was also seen looking round Air Atlantiques DC-3’s.
