Unfourtunately the search has been called off, with no sign of the pilot.
Here is a news piece that was quoted in the Icelandic newspapers last night.

Ferry flying seems such a seductive way of earning a living until something like this happens.

Poor sod, It can’t be (have been) a lot of fun for him in his last few hours (assuming he got out of the single-doored fixed gear Piper).

According to Icelandic spotters, it looks increasingly likely that the aircraft in question is N60842, Piper PA-28-161 Warrior III. Brand new.

Pilot was well equipped, wearing a dry suite and had a dinghy on board.

Does not look too good. The aircraft went down around 1130 this morning about 130 NM southeast of Hornafjordur. Wave hight reported as 8-9 meters, chopers and a coast guard vessel have been on station there all afternoon. No sign of the pilot yet. Aerial search has been called off due to darkness, but will presumably resume in the morning.
