Is it just me, or does that 109 look to be running a little rich?

I’ve saved that one for later – gonna watch it through the PS4, on the big screen!

Just curious. Why do they not stage this during a weekend?

Yes, it is. It is a late war so called ERLA Haube (canopy), first used and developed by ERLA company of Leipzig
Often incorrectly referred to as a ‘Galland Hood’.

Yes, it is. It is a late war so called ERLA Haube (canopy), first used and developed by ERLA company of Leipzig (BTW they built roughly 1/3 of all 109ยดs. Black 6 -G-2 trop- formerly at Hendon, now Cosford, was built by ERLA).

Is the canopy on the G14 authentic style?
Looks kind of odd to me

Well two are Buchon conversions – the “G-12” used to be the Harold Kindsvater Buchon, and it is believed that the “G-14” used to be the Richard Lake Buchon (Hangar10 purchased the airframe, and a year later the “G-14” appeared – the company that did the work stating that there was an engine conversion involved, so obviously the airframe began as a Buchon). The G-6 is a completely new-build machine based on parts/identity from a recovered wreck, like some of the Spitfires now flying. All three have paperwork/data plate identities of original Messerschmitts attached.

I notice that the adverts for the aeroplanes say they were built in 1943-4 but I thought they are conversions of Buchons (which were built in the fifties).
Are they originals or conversions?

Well, after all Daz, Real Messerschmitts Have Allisons! ๐

I’ve just realised that the caption on the video is wrong, hence the error in my first post!

I do rather like that Allison-powered Buchon!

Speaking of tulip-schemed ‘109’s, the Erickson Aircraft Collection’s converted Buchon “G-10” has been active quite a bit lately, which is wonderful to see, especially for all of the work that went into it for the engineering involved and to be a reliable, weekend flyer that outwardly appears the same as a stock DB 605-powered example. It is scheduled for the Boundary Bay airshow next weekend. https://scontent.ffcm1-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/36393013_1714747198644653_5997793937622827008_n.jpg?_nc_cat=0&oh=8f6a9bdfbc088f5106b8fa3df9602dc0&oe=5BE31962

I have to say i whish they would give slightly more intersting schemes to their 109s sice they all seem to be similarly dull grey schemes!
I keep hoping an owner will go bold and fly with a tulip for a while.

No, D-FMGZ (which is the two-seat “Bf-109G-12” conversion) used to be N109W.
D-FMGV, the “Bf-109G-14” in the video that Daren has posted, is speculated to be the former G-AWHE Buchon, but nothing has been confirmed of this (and likely never will be, unless that airframe reappears as not having been the one). The company that did the work, Rare Bird Aviation, describes the project as having included an “engine conversion”, with some airframe work, which clearly points to the aircraft having been a Buchon first, despite it being now registered with a G-14 identity. When the aircraft was unveiled earlier this year, the time it took to produce this “Bf-109G-14” was also described as only having taken a year, which also puts the timeline back to when Hangar10 purchased the Buchon G-AWHE.
I believe the QEC that was originally built-up for the Hangar10 “Bf-109G-12” is the one used/fitted on this “Bf-109G-14” now, and the “G-12” will now permanently be keeping the Buchon nose/Merlin (no more talk of swapping QEC’s – the sales ads for the “G-12” don’t show or describe anything to do with a DB 605 powerplant option). It was also rumored for a while that the Buchon QEC installed on the “G-12” came from G-AWHE after Hangar10 purchased it.

Isn’t D-FMGZ the one that used to be G-AWHE?

Thank you for sharing the link, Daren. The registration is actually D-FMGV. There are now three “109’s” operating under the ownership of Hangar10/Air Fighter Academy – all three have their own sales pages on Trade-A-Plane:
