Another loss after Steve Fletcher
It is with the deepest sorrow that we let know Paulo Emanuele, General Manager of Airliners.net died this evening in a tragic plane crash. His plane took off out of Santa Monica Airport around 5:00 PM and lost power. Paulo attempted to return to the airport, but did not make it. Paulo loved Airliners and everything it stands for.
He will be remembered for his passion, his kindness, and his love for life.
Paulo was an amazing pilot, an amazing photographer, an amazing friend, and an amazing father. He will be deeply missed.
Thank you Paulo for the time we had with you…We know you will be smiling down on us.

My condolences go out to all of his family and friends.
Eternal rest grant to him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.
Amen.

The passenger in the plane is believed to be Martin Schaedel a leading light on the internet and co-founder of FareCompare. Martin had apparantly had his first flying lesson on the day before.
Mod. This thread should be in General Aviation?:)

Accidents always hit home for those of us who fly. Really sad news 🙁

I met Paulo and had several good chats with him about aviation, photography and airliners.net at the Reno Air Races in 2007. He came across as a genuinely nice guy with a passion for aviation, flying and photography including video. Its very sad news, and as I’m a GA pilot with a share in an aeroplane it reminds me of our own mortality.

Dear god how tragic.
It’s always tragic to hear of a death, no matter how it happens.
Paulo was one of us, an aviation enthusiast. His death will be felt all the closer because of it.
Tail winds…
