The much-anticipated flight of NZ2308 took place yesterday, with Steve Hinton at the helm.
As if we need reminding, this is the FOURTH Mosquito Avspecs have returned to the air ! What a turnaround from the time it seemed we might never again see a Mosquito fly.

This Mosquito T.43, which is ex RAAF and then RNZAF NZ2308 was flown under the civil registration ZK-PWL as a gesture to Glyn Powell, who instigated the rebuild many years ago.
It was active at the Warbirds Over Wanaka airshow held over Easter, photos attached.

Hi All,
As an addition to the OP there is a nice article about NZ2308 this includes tiny piece of their next Mossie project with particular relevance to the UK, Courtesy of the Vintage Aviation News website.

Eric Brown, in his later years was of the opinion that it was too much of a handful, and really not suitable for enthusiast/civilian operation. Happily, we have seen twelve years of safe operation since the 2012 NZ-lead ‘renaissance’, though the ‘pool’ of pilots has remained very small, restricted only to those at the absolute highest proficiency level of the ‘industry’.

In the 90’s the editor of Air Classics told me ” I don’t think we will see more Mosquitos restored to fly.” At the time it did seem impossible , so there was nothing wrong saying that. Never say Never. Not only have we had the four done and more coming , Victoria Air Maintenance in BC Canada, rebuilt Bob Jens’ airplane and flew it. Sadly this went to KF Aerospace in Kelowna BC in June 2022 and hasn’t flown since.
